Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs
Hours: 36 hrs/wk
Start Date: Sep 15, 2026
Length: 13 weeks

Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Special Care Nursery position requiring Level II nursery and delivery room experience, along with charge and preceptor experience.

Special Care Nursery / Level II patient population
36-hour, 3x12 night shift schedule from 18:50 to 07:20
Required to work every other weekend
Floats to postpartum unit for baby care assignments
Scrubs provided

Requirements

Active RN license (MD or Compact) currently in hand
Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and STABLE
Minimum 2 years of recent experience within the last 7 years required
Must have completed at least 1 previous travel assignment
Special Care Nursery/Level II experience required
Delivery room experience required
Charge nurse experience required
Preceptor experience required
Charting/EMR system experience required

Additional Information

Provide comprehensive newborn care including assessments, cord care, thermoregulation, and phototherapy
Assist with circumcision procedures and post-op site assessment
Perform car seat education and discharge teaching for parents
Care for newborns with special needs including large for gestational age, low birth weight, and hypoglycemia
Administer IV antibiotics and manage IV therapy including starting and maintaining IVs
Monitor and care for infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome
Perform metabolic screening and infant identification procedures
Follow isolation precautions and PPE protocols
Administer vaccines as needed
Local candidates within 60 miles accepted at a local rate
Candidates residing within 60 miles must provide a driver's license matching their address at time of consideration
Maximum RTO of 7 days per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment
Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
