Full Job Description

Job Overview

Our company is one of the fastest-growing civil construction contractors in Tennessee, and we're looking for an experienced Senior Construction Accountant to help support our continued growth.

This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and serves as a key member of the accounting team, partnering with executive leadership and project management to ensure the financial success of our projects.

This is a Full-time, in office position based in Nashville, Tennessee. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are NOT available.

What You'll Do

Prepare and analyze monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability reports.
manage construction project accounting from contract award through closeout.
Prepare, review, and submit owner payment applications, including AIA billing.
Track project costs, committed costs, change orders, retainage, and contract balances.
Work closely with Project Managers to ensure accurate job costing, forecasting, and revenue recognition.
Reconcile project billings, collections, and subcontractor payables.
Review subcontractor payment applications, lien waivers, insurance compliance, and supporting documentation. Assist with monthly and year-end financial close processes.
Support externa audits, financial reporting, and lender requests.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting.
Assist leadership with cash flow forecasting and financial analysis.

What We're Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Minimum five (5) years of accounting experience in the construction industry.
Strong understanding of:

Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting

Percentage-of-completion accounting

AIA payment applications

Progress billing and retainage

Job cost accounting

Change order accounting

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with operations and executive leadership.
Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
