Position Summary
In this role, you will develop and support integrations between business systems while reviewing and hardening user-facing applications, including applications produced through AI-assisted development. You will also serve as a hands-on leader of Healthcare Realty’s software development lifecycle (SDLC), helping establish practical standards and coordinating their consistent use across application initiatives.
Working closely with IT leadership, developers, project managers, business stakeholders, security, infrastructure, and other technical resources, you will guide applications from initial requirements through design, development, testing, approval, deployment, and ongoing support. Success in this role requires the ability to influence teams without relying solely on formal authority, identify and remove process gaps, and perform the detailed work necessary to keep applications moving through the lifecycle.
You will ensure applications are reliable, maintainable, secure, appropriately documented, and ready for deployment in cloud-hosted environments such as Azure Web Apps and related Azure services. This role reports to the Application Architect within the Tech Services organization.
Key Responsibilities
-
Help define, implement, and continuously improve a practical, scalable SDLC framework covering intake, requirements, architecture and design, development, code review, testing, security review, release approval, deployment, documentation, and ongoing support.
-
Coordinate with IT leadership and delivery teams to establish clear SDLC roles, responsibilities, decision rights, required deliverables, and approval points.
-
Serve as the hands-on SDLC lead for application initiatives, shepherding applications and integrations through each lifecycle stage and following up with responsible team members to keep deliverables, reviews, approvals, and releases on track.
-
Promote consistent adoption of SDLC practices through collaboration, coaching, clear communication, and constructive influence across technical and business teams.
-
Identify gaps or risks that could prevent an application from advancing, coordinate remediation, and escalate unresolved issues or exceptions to the appropriate IT leaders.
-
Perform the detailed work needed to move initiatives forward, including documenting requirements and technical decisions, coordinating reviews, preparing checklists and release materials, tracking action items, validating readiness, and organizing supporting evidence.
-
Establish and maintain reusable SDLC templates, checklists, standards, procedures, and application documentation that are appropriately scaled to the complexity and risk of each initiative.
-
Maintain visibility into the SDLC status of active application initiatives and communicate progress, dependencies, risks, exceptions, and decisions to IT leadership and stakeholders.
-
Define and track practical measures of SDLC effectiveness, such as review completion, release readiness, documentation coverage, unresolved risks, production defects, and adherence to required controls.
-
Develop, review, and harden applications—particularly those created through AI-assisted development—to ensure they meet organizational quality, reliability, maintainability, and security standards.
-
Perform code reviews to identify defects, insecure patterns, maintainability concerns, and deviations from development standards.
-
Confirm that authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, logging, monitoring, error handling, data retention, and recovery requirements are appropriately addressed.
-
Build and maintain secure, reliable integrations with internal and third-party systems, including appropriate input validation, error handling, monitoring, and support procedures.
-
Coordinate testing activities, defect remediation, deployment readiness, production validation, and transition to ongoing application support.
-
Create and maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks, support procedures, release records, and remediation guidance for supported applications.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field; equivalent professional experience (5+ years) will be considered in lieu of a degree.
-
Proven experience in a software development or application support role.
-
Demonstrated experience guiding applications through the full SDLC, from requirements and design through deployment and production support.
-
Experience coordinating work across developers, infrastructure, security, project management, business stakeholders, and IT leadership.
-
Ability to influence teams, create accountability, resolve ambiguity, and drive process adoption without direct supervisory authority.
-
Strong organizational and follow-through skills, with a willingness to perform detailed documentation, coordination, testing, and release-readiness work.
-
Experience developing or operationalizing SDLC standards, approval gates, templates, checklists, or governance processes.
-
Strong working knowledge of modern SDLC practices and demonstrated experience applying them across multiple application initiatives.
-
Proficiency developing and reviewing code written in C#, JavaScript, Python, and other languages while leveraging multiple backend and frontend frameworks such as .NET Core, React, and others.
-
Understanding of common application security concepts, including secure coding practices and vulnerability remediation.
-
Understanding of authentication concepts such as single sign-on and role-based access, as well as encryption, secrets, and key-management concepts.
-
General knowledge of SQL queries and relational database design.
-
Hands-on background deploying, configuring, and supporting Azure-hosted applications, including Azure Web Apps and related cloud application services.
