Overview
The Manager, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting, will play a key role in the Company’s external financial reporting, technical accounting, and financial statement preparation. This is a 100% remote position, offering the opportunity to work collaboratively across the organization while maintaining significant ownership of key accounting and reporting activities.
This position will support the preparation and review of SEC filings, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q, and help ensure that financial statements and related disclosures are accurate, complete, timely, and compliant with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements.
As part of a lean accounting and finance team, this is a hands-on role that combines technical accounting expertise with execution. The Manager will not only research and document technical accounting matters but will also be responsible for certain accounting activities within their areas of expertise, including preparing and recording journal entries.
The position has significant exposure to senior and executive management, providing the opportunity to contribute to high-visibility financial reporting, accounting, and strategic initiatives. Responsibilities
SEC Reporting and External Financial Reporting
- Support the preparation and review of the Company’s SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, earnings releases, proxy, registration statements and other critical filings.
- Coordinate the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, footnotes, and related disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of supporting schedules, disclosure checklists, tie-outs, and other documentation supporting SEC filings.
- Coordinate inputs and review comments from internal stakeholders, external auditors, legal counsel, and other advisors during the reporting process.
- Support XBRL tagging and filing processes and work with external service providers as appropriate.
- Monitor SEC reporting requirements and accounting disclosure developments and assist with incorporating changes into the Company’s reporting processes.
- Maintain organized documentation supporting financial statements, disclosures, and SEC filings.
Technical Accounting
- Research technical accounting matters under U.S. GAAP and applicable SEC guidance.
- Prepare clear and well-supported technical accounting memoranda documenting accounting conclusions and the basis for those conclusions.
- Translate technical accounting conclusions into the appropriate accounting treatment, including preparation and recording of related journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Assist in evaluating the accounting implications of new or unusual transactions, agreements, and business activities.
- Monitor new accounting standards and regulatory developments and help assess their potential impact on the Company.
- Support implementation of newly adopted accounting standards, including development of appropriate documentation, processes, and disclosures.
- Partner with finance, legal, operations, and other functions to gather information and evaluate accounting matters.
- Work with external auditors and technical accounting advisors to support the resolution of accounting and reporting matters.
Financial Statement Preparation and Close Support
- Own preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, including the balance sheet, statement of operations, statement of cash flows, statement of stockholders’ equity, and accompanying footnotes.
- Support monthly and quarterly close, including preparation and recording of several journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and related analyses.
- Support accounting for the Company's equity programs and equity-related transactions, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with quarterly and year-end close activities that directly support external financial reporting.
- Prepare and maintain financial reporting schedules and reconciliations used in the preparation of financial statements.
- Collaborate with the accounting team to identify and resolve financial close/reporting issues in a timely manner.
- Help improve the accuracy, efficiency, consistency, and documentation of financial reporting/close processes.
Audit and Internal Control Support
- Support quarterly reviews and annual audits by preparing requested schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries.
- Coordinate with external auditors on financial reporting and technical accounting matters.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and evidence supporting key financial reporting controls.
- Assist with the execution and enhancement of internal controls over financial reporting related to SEC reporting, financial statement preparation, and technical accounting.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen reporting processes, documentation, and controls as the Company evolves.
Cross-Functional and Special Projects
- Collaborate with accounting, finance, legal, and other internal teams on transactions and matters affecting financial reporting.
- Support accounting and reporting considerations associated with financing activities, equity transactions, contracts, and other corporate transactions.
- Assist with financial information and documentation required for Board, Audit Committee, investor, financing, or other corporate purposes, with regular exposure to executive management.
- Participate in special accounting and finance projects as needed.
- Contribute to the development of scalable accounting and reporting processes appropriate for a growing public company.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Active CPA license required.
- 5+ years of relevant accounting experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- Experience preparing, supporting, or auditing SEC filings and public-company financial statements.
- Strong understanding of financial statements and the relationships among the balance sheet, statement of operations, statement of cash flows, and statement of stockholders’ equity.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and knowledge of financial reporting and accounting systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- History of problem-solving technical, decision-making, communication and diplomacy skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, well-supported work within reporting deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Experience
- Experience serving public-company clients in a Big Four or other national public accounting firm strongly preferred.
- Experience with SEC reporting for a publicly traded company.
- Experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other regulated industry.
- Familiarity with SEC reporting software and XBRL processes.
- Experience researching technical accounting guidance and preparing well-supported accounting conclusions and memoranda.
- Exposure to accounting for equity-based compensation, debt and equity financings, research and development arrangements, or other transactions relevant to public life sciences companies.
- Experience supporting quarterly reviews and annual audits.
- Familiarity with internal controls over financial reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
Pay: $155,000.00 - $164,000.00 per year
