Join our dynamic Bay-Lakes Council, Scouting America team as a Camping Program Associate through the AmeriCorps Community Corps, where you will play a vital role in the design and promotion of safe, fun, and engaging team-oriented camp programs for schools, churches, scouting units, and families. The camping Program Associate will assist with training and coaching of camp staff to foster supportive, structured environments where our youth campers can feel valued, build resilience, and improve self-esteem. By utilizing outdoor "Challenge-By-Choice" activities, these camping programs directly combat the growing adolescent mental, emotional, and social health crisis gripping our communities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, designing, organizing, scheduling, and executing camp programs, activities and promotional events.
- Support staff training, onboarding, and mentoring; help lead or facilitate training sessions for seasonal camp staff.
- Handle program-related paperwork, documentation, schedules, forms, checklists, and administrative tasks (e.g., using systems like BlackPug or WorkBright).
- Coordinate supplies: order, inventory, pack, replenish, and distribute program materials and equipment.
- Assist with quality control, observations, and ensuring programs meet camp standards (e.g., National Camp Accreditation Program standards) and Wisconsin health and safety regulations for Recreational/Educational Camps.
- Support volunteer coordination, including recruitment support, and retention efforts.
- Help supervise or support camper activities, group facilitation, and overall camper well-being and engagement.
- When at camp, model positive behavior, and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and fun environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Outdoor Programming or as needed by the organization.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children/youth, in camping, recreation, youth programs, community events, or nonprofit settings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with kids, parents, staff, and volunteers.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for administrative tasks and camper communication.
- Group leadership experience and ability to plan and facilitate kid-friendly programming preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; flexibility with non-traditional hours, evenings, weekends, and seasonal demands.
- Enthusiasm for outdoor/camping environments, positive attitude, maturity, reliability, and commitment to youth development and safety.
- Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse communities and individuals from underserved backgrounds.
- Commitment to Scouting’s values of: Character Development, Leadership, Citizenship, and Personal Fitness.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, & current auto insurance.
- CPR/First Aid Certifications preferred or willingness to obtain within first ninety days.
- Must pass background checks.
- Reside in or near the Fox Valley Area, preferably Appleton, Green Bay or Oshkosh areas.

· $7,395 Education Award for tuition or student loan payback upon completing service term (10/12/26-8/27/27); paid through AmeriCorps.
- If age 55+ may transfer education award to child, stepchild, or grandchild within 7 years.
This full-time position averages 37-40 hours per week and requires a flexible schedule that may include afternoon and evening shifts.
Camping Program Associates may need to travel to multiple council operated camps each week between May and August. September through April may require occasional trips to camps, but the majority of responsibilities will be completed at the Bay-Lakes Council headquarters in Appleton, WI.
A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel are required. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
No Scouting experience? No problem. While prior experience is preferred, we’ll provide the training, resources, and support needed for success!
