POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT DATE: August 2026

JOB TITLE: Event Staff

PAY: $20/ hour

REPORTS TO: Patron Relations & Communications Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Asheville Symphony is seeking friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic Event Staff to join our Front-of-House team for the 2026–27 season. Event Staff serve as front-of-house support personnel during Asheville Symphony performances, helping create a safe, welcoming, organized, and enjoyable experience for every patron.

Event Staff assist with a variety of concert-day operations, including venue setup and teardown, parking, ticket scanning, door monitoring, patron wayfinding, and general guest assistance. Working under the supervision of House Managers and the Patron Relations Department, Event Staff play an important role in ensuring smooth concert operations and an exceptional patron experience.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Setup & Teardown: Indoor/outdoor signage, auditorium seat/row banners, lobby materials, program books, light cleaning, restroom supply stocking, post-concert reception setup/ teardown at select concerts, parking barricades, etc. Must be able to lift and carry 20 lbs, recommended to be able to lift 40 lbs.
Ticket Scanning: Welcoming guests and managing entry flow. Familiarity and comfortability using technology / QR code ticket scanners. Problem solving if a ticket scan error occurs / manually looking up a ticket order and seat location.
Usher Assistance: Supporting and collaborating with volunteer ushers to ensure patrons are seated in their correct seat location.
Customer Service: Providing directions, answering questions, and assisting patrons throughout the venue.
Parking Support: Monitoring and directing parking flow as needed. VIP parking lot check-in. Directing buses from retirement communities. Assisting patrons with accessibility needs / directing to the accessible entrance and parking spots. Quick problem solving if parking lots fill up.
Problem Solving: Calmly referring patron concerns to House Managers or Asheville Symphony staff when appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, events, or the performing arts is preferred, but not required.
Friendly and professional demeanor with a genuine interest in creating a positive patron experience.
Dependable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and helpful in a fast-paced event environment.
Comfortable working in a variety of front-of-house positions and adapting to changing event needs.
Ability to remain standing and active for extended periods during events.
Ability to assist with event setup and teardown, including moving event materials within individual physical ability.

SCHEDULING

This is a part-time, event-based position. Event Staff are generally expected to work at least seven performances per season. Approximately one month before each concert, Event Staff will receive a shift sign-up link and may select shifts based on their availability. Shifts are typically 4-5 hours long for a single performance, though you are welcome to work double shifts for the Masterworks concerts, which have both matinee and evening performances

Saturday, March 20th, 2027: Masterworks 5: Dedication
Saturday, April 17th, 2027: Masterworks 6: Marquee
Saturday, May 22nd, 2027: Masterworks 7: Homeland

Asheville Symphony:

The Asheville Symphony is a leader among cultural organizations in a desirable, arts-focused community. The ASO has experienced remarkable growth in artistic excellence, educational and program offerings, and revenue in the last several years, reaching an audience of more than 50,000 annually through ticketed performances, community programming, and music education programs.

The ASO produces a variety of musical programs for the benefit of Asheville and the Western North Carolina region. Currently, these programs include 14 Masterworks concerts, 3-4 Pops programs, 4 ALT ASO chamber orchestra performances, community engagement programs such as Symphony in the Park in downtown’s Pack Square Park, 3 recitals, and a robust music education suite that includes the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra, Music in the Schools, Young People’s Concerts, Symphony Talk, Hip Hop Folktale Project and more. Compensation: $20 / hour

Status: Part-Time

Schedule: This position is part-time. Concerts occur approximately 1-2 times per month. Shifts are typically 3-5 hours, and you can work a double shift if desired.
