Peninsula Bridge is seeking an experienced, passionate, Math educator for our After School Academy at our Nueva School (San Mateo) site (September 2026-May 2027).

Schedule:

This is a part-time, on-site, two-day-a-week teaching role, from 3:45 - 5:45 pm, plus approximately 1 hour of administrative and collaborative work each week. There are approximately 50 total teaching days for the year.

Days/Times/Locations available:

Nueva School (San Mateo) - Tuesdays/Thursdays- 3:45-5:45pm

Pay: $75/hr for teaching; $35/hr for meetings and administrative work

Job Description

Instructors will teach a class of 15-20 students using the Peninsula Bridge curriculum. For one semester, they will teach a 6th-grade Math class, and for the other a 7th-grade Math class. The Math lessons focus on grade-level curriculum. The after-school curriculum is based on Common Core standards. There is no curriculum design required, and all lesson plans and materials will be prepared and provided by Peninsula Bridge.

Classes meet twice per week during the academic year after school hours. Instructors are responsible for being well-prepared for all sessions and for reading all communications (lesson plans, email announcements, etc.). In addition to teaching, there are monthly site debrief meetings, 2-3 training sessions outside of the regularly scheduled program time, and collaboration with the site-based coordinator and instructional lead. Instructors are expected to analyze student work and assessments and use it to inform their teaching. At the conclusion of each semester, instructors will provide an assessment and narrative comment for each student.

Instructors are part of a collaborative site-based team with four to five other teachers, a Site Coordinator who is also a full-time Peninsula Bridge Staff member, and an Instructional Lead who reports to the Director of Middle School Programs.

Proven excellence in teaching math for 3-5 years in a public school or independent school setting
Experience in making curriculum engaging for students
Effective at supporting students to meet academic goals and objectives
Knowledge of and direct practice in teaching and modeling Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills (confidence, motivation)
Effective student classroom management skills (PBIS)
Effective in building a strong sense of community and belonging, and maintaining a positive rapport
Ability to demonstrate cultural humility
Highly developed understanding of child and/or adolescent development
Creative, adaptable, and able to manage multiple objectives at one time
Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including colleagues, families, volunteers, and visitors
Experience working with diverse learners
Effective organization skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing
Bachelor’s Degree
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application

Preferred Competencies/Qualifications:

Teaching Credential
Masters Degree
Spanish speaking

Additional Information

This is an hourly position. Compensation is:
$75/hr. for Direct Teaching Hours
$35/hr. for Administrative Tasks (trainings, teacher meetings, assessment)
There are an average of 25 sessions per semester, 50 sessions per year (September-May) and one teacher training day on Saturday, August 29th.
We observe school holidays and in-service days. These are unpaid.
