Full Job Description

Motor Grader Operator/Foreman

Reports To: Foreman/Superintendent

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

The Motor Grader Operator is responsible for operating a motor grader fine grading, install rock and fine grade for paving. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and coordination with the paving crew to ensure the rock meets grade and surface quality specifications. The Motor Grader Operator plays a crucial role in achieving a durable and high-quality rock/pavement finish.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate Motor Grader:

o Proficient operation of motor grader to fine grade sites and roads. (A plus would be able to operate dozer, loader, excavator, etc.)

o Supervise crew to ensure crew activities and goals are met safely.

o Order trucks to meet production goals daily.

o Conduct safety meetings and document.

o Be able to read and understand site drawings.

o Report crew time, daily logs, pictures using Heavy Job application.

Coordinate with Grading Foreman:
Work closely with the grading foreman to ensure that jobsite is progressing in a timely manner.
Communicate effectively to address inconsistencies or make adjustments during the grading process.
Monitor Sub-grade and Rock Condition:
Ensure proper compaction by rolling and properly wetting to insure a well compacted grade.
Observe for imperfections and inform the inspector of any issues.
Maintain Equipment:
Perform pre- and post-operation inspections of the motor grader, checking for mechanical issues, fluid levels, and cleanliness.
Report any maintenance needs or equipment malfunctions promptly.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain awareness of surroundings, including crew members and traffic.

Qualifications:

Experience:
Previous experience as a foreman operating a motor grader is required.
Skills:
Knowledge of soil and rock compaction techniques and rolling patterns.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while operating the motor grader.
Stamina to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift 75 pounds.
Certifications:
Osha 10 training required.

Work Environment:

This position involves working outdoors in close proximity to heavy machinery and traffic. Work hours may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on project schedules.
