Job Title: Development Director

Reports To: Executive Director Location: Atlanta, GA Status: Full-Time, Exempt

About Soccer in the Streets

Soccer in the Streets is a nonprofit organization that creates opportunity through soccer, with a focus on underserved youth. Through station-connected soccer fields, life-skills programs, and community-based initiatives, we strive to build healthier communities and pathways to success for young people across Atlanta.

Position Summary

The Director of Development is a strategic and relationship-driven leader responsible for advancing Soccer in the Streets’ revenue growth, brand visibility, and external engagement. This Director of Development is a key driver of the organization’s fundraising, marketing, communications, and strategic partnership efforts to strengthen philanthropic support, expand community presence, and elevate the organization’s mission across Atlanta and beyond.

Working closely with the Executive Director and Director of Strategic Partnerships, the Director of Development will drive integrated strategies that connect donor engagement, storytelling, brand positioning, and institutional partnerships to organizational growth. This role is ideal for a leader who brings strong fundraising acumen, marketing instincts, and a deep understanding of how external relationships fuel long-term impact.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy, Operations & Leadership

Lead team of marketing and development staff and contractors
Oversee fundraising systems, donor database integrity, reporting processes, and campaign tracking in partnership with internal teams.
Oversee donor and prospect research to identify, qualify, and prioritize high-capacity individual, corporate, and institutional funding opportunities aligned with Soccer in the Streets’ mission and growth strategy.
Oversee grant strategy and writing across foundation, corporate, and public funding opportunities, ensuring proposals, reports, and stewardship materials are compelling, timely, and aligned with Soccer in the Streets’ strategic priorities.
Partner closely with the Executive Director, Director of Strategic Partnerships to develop and execute major donor strategies, prospect engagement plans, and solicitation opportunities.
Partner cross-functionally with program, operations, and leadership teams to align storytelling, funding priorities, and external engagement.
Contribute to organizational strategic planning and serve as a key thought partner on growth, sustainability, and external positioning.

Campaigns, Events & Annual Giving

Lead strategy and execution for annual fundraising campaigns including year-end giving, monthly giving, StationSoccer campaign and other fundraising efforts.
Build integrated fundraising campaigns across email, social media, digital platforms, events, and direct donor outreach.
Oversee donor and partner communications calendar and campaign execution to ensure consistency, quality, and strategic sequencing.
Partner on fundraising events including Corporate Cup, donor cultivation gatherings, and mission-centered community experiences.
Develop strategies to convert event participants, volunteers, and community supporters into long-term philanthropic partners.

Major Individual Giving

Lead and execute a comprehensive major individual giving strategy focused on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding high-capacity individual donors.
Build and manage a portfolio of major individual donors and prospects, developing tailored engagement strategies that deepen relationships and increase philanthropic investment.
Partner closely with the Executive Director to drive major gift strategy, donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, including personalized proposals and engagement plans.
Oversee moves management and prospect research to ensure strong pipeline development, strategic follow-through, and long-term donor growth.

Board & External Relations

Support executive communications, thought leadership, and speaking opportunities for the Executive Director and senior leadership.
Oversee development of compelling messaging and storytelling that elevates Soccer in the Streets’ mission, impact, and brand across key audiences.
Support Board members in cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising participation through strategy, tools, and donor communications.
Prepare fundraising materials, donor briefs, and engagement opportunities for Board and leadership use.
Serve as a visible ambassador for Soccer in the Streets with donors, corporate partners, foundations, and community stakeholders.

Qualifications

7+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, marketing, communications, or external affairs.
Demonstrated success securing major gifts, leading fundraising campaigns, and managing donor relationships.
Strong marketing and communications experience, including brand strategy, storytelling, digital engagement, and public relations.
Proven ability to develop and execute integrated strategies that connect fundraising, communications, and partnerships.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor and public-facing messaging.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Experience working with donor CRM systems, campaign reporting, and fundraising analytics.
Collaborative and entrepreneurial leadership style with strong relationship-building instincts.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in youth development, sports-based youth development, education, or community-serving nonprofit organizations.
Familiarity with Atlanta’s philanthropic, corporate, and civic landscape.
Experience supporting executive visibility, board engagement, and strategic partnerships.

Compensation:

Compensation for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications. The final offer will be based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience and internal equity.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
