Position Summary
Under direct supervision of the Elders Center Manager, the Transportation Concierge safely operates United Auburn Indian Community vehicles, transporting Tribal Elders, Tribal Members, minors, and staff. The Transportation Concierge is responsible for transporting program participants to and from appointments, grocery shopping, and delivering meals or supplies. This position must routinely use tact, poise, good judgment, and professionalism while communicating with tribal members, UAIC staff, and external organizations. The Transportation Concierge is required to exercise independent judgment and initiative in resolving issues while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and always leading with a five-star customer service attitude.
Job Functions
Essential Functions
- Maintain the highest level of customer service and concierge standards for members and staff at all times.
- Maintain a level of professionalism to support a positive working atmosphere at all times.
- Assist in opening and closing the Elders Center daily (e.g., lights and music, outside cushions, dishwasher, and laundry) and documenting on daily log.
- Maintain receipts in an organized fashion with mandated notations and submit for processing daily in accordance with approved protocol.
- Assist with arranging and recording produce for delivery to program participants
- Efficient grocery shopping for Elders, ensuring the highest standard of quality products as identified by customer satisfaction.
- Label and document parcels for delivery in accordance with approved protocol.
- Clearly communicate supply needs (grocery items, lunch items, and facility) in a timely manner to program staff through approved systems of communication.
- Operation of a UAIC vehicle transporting participating Tribal Elders to and from medical and non-medical appointments in a safe and timely manner.
- Perform routine interior and exterior cleaning of vehicle as needed.
- Utilize approved driving applications to track usage of UAIC vehicle.
- Assist Tribal Elders on errand days with shopping needs and guidance throughout the store(s), including assistance with bagging items and transporting items to/from vehicle and home.
- Operation of a UAIC vehicle delivering meals and/or groceries to program participants in a safe and timely manner.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure proper operating conditions in accordance with approved procedures.
- Adhere to UAIC Transportation’s prescribed standards and comply with California driving laws.
- Assist with ordering and tracking supplies needs (i.e. groceries, meals, deliverable schedules) for program through MS Excel and MS Word.
- Assist with creating and maintaining program deliverable schedules and disseminate accordingly.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with HIPPA and UAIC standards.
- Provide event assistance as requested.
- Shop for program deliverables and supplies.
- Provide concierge level service to visiting guests as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of the California Motor Vehicle Code, applicable to operation of Class B vehicle
- Knowledge of CPR, AED and first aid practices and procedures
- Knowledge of regional and California metropolitan geographies
- Knowledge of health codes and sanitation principles
Skills
- Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License Class A or B passenger endorsement
- Safe driving practices; provisions
- Exercise good judgement and caution in challenging traffic situations and in interactions with children and Tribal Elders

- Experience with MS Suite program.
Abilities
- Provide a ten (10) year driving history from an authorized source. In California, a DMV Driver’s License Record is the preferred source of this information.
- Driver’s License Records will be screened for the following criteria:
1. Points
2. Accidents
3. Moving Violations
4. DUI/DWI
- Insurable under the UAIC motor vehicle insurance policy
- Ability to clear all necessary background checks and subject to random drug screens once employed and physical exams
- Ability to obtain and maintain HIPAA Certification
- Ability to hold a current DOT medical certificate
- Ability to perform first aid and hold a current First Aid, CPR and AED certificate
- Ability to effectively use GPS technology
- Ability to read and interpret maps
- Ability to remain focused and attentive in all situations
- Ability to safely drive in extreme weather conditions such as rain, wind, thunderstorms, snow and heat.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to work effectively with others as a team, as well as ability to be an efficient individual contributor, who can work well independently.
- Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with Tribal Members and program staff.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements
o High school diploma or equitant
o Valid Class B with passenger endorsement
o ServSafe Certificate or ability to obtain within one month of employment
- Mandated Reporter certificate or ability to obtain within one month of employment
- HIPPA Certification or ability to obtain within one month of employment
Preferred qualifications:
- 2 or more years of experience driving in a professional capacity
- Professional service experience working with the elderly
Working Conditions
Ability to drive and transport Elders in a UAIC designated vehicle requires physical ability in driving and walking to, from, and around locations in temperature extremes, such as heat in excess of 100 degrees F, and cold below 20 degrees F. Ability to also work in an office setting while closely surrounded by others. While performing duties, employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, to handle, pinch, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift, move, push or pull up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job, with or without correction, include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
