Job Type: Full-Time Salary $47,000 - $57,000

La Pecora Nera Italian Deli is a gourmet sandwich and salad shop dedicated to delivering high-quality, artisan Italian-inspired dishes. Our menu features handcrafted sandwiches on specialty focaccia, fresh signature salads, and house-made dressings. We take pride in using premium ingredients such as imported Italian meats, fresh mozzarella, and bold, flavorful spreads.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and personable Customer-Facing Sous Chef to join our culinary team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about Italian cuisine, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys engaging with customers. The Sous Chef will work alongside the Head Chef to execute our menu with precision while providing an excellent guest experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Culinary Excellence:

Prepare and assemble artisan sandwiches, signature salads, and house-made soups and dressings with attention to presentation and quality.
Assist in daily kitchen operations, ensuring all ingredients are fresh, properly stored, and prepared in advance.
Maintain consistency in food preparation by following our established recipes and plating guidelines.
Monitor food stock levels and communicate any needs to the Head Chef or management.

Customer Interaction:

Engage with customers in an open kitchen environment, explaining menu items and offering recommendations.
Handle special requests, modifications, and dietary accommodations while maintaining the integrity of the dishes.
Ensure a warm and welcoming experience by providing exceptional customer service.

Kitchen Operations & Teamwork:

Work closely with the culinary and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth service during peak hours.
Uphold all food safety and sanitation regulations to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Assist with training and mentoring junior kitchen staff, promoting efficiency and teamwork.
Contribute to menu development and seasonal specials by providing feedback and creative input.

Qualifications:

2+ years of experience as a Sous Chef, Line Cook, or similar role in an Italian or deli-style restaurant.
Strong knowledge of Italian meats, cheeses, and traditional flavor pairings.
Excellent knife skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Outgoing personality with strong communication skills and a passion for hospitality.
Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure.
ServSafe or equivalent food handling certification (preferred).
