Medical Billing Specialist (Part-Time, Contract)

Location: Gray, Maine

Pay: $23-$26/hr

Company: Gray Physical Therapy

Schedule: Flexible 10-20 hours a week, possible need for hybrid in-office once a week

About Us: Gray Physical Therapy is a community focused outpatient physical therapy clinic. We are searching for a new medical billing specialist who can provide outstanding service from the moment they walk through the door.

Job Description: We are seeking a part-time Medical Billing Specialist to join our team as an independent contractor. This hybrid role offers flexibility, combining remote work with periodic in-office hours. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of outpatient medical billing and coding, particularly within the physical therapy setting.

Responsibilities:

Submit accurate and timely claims to insurance companies
Verify insurance benefits and obtain prior authorizations as needed
Review and code patient encounters using CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes
Follow up on unpaid claims and resolve billing issues
Post payments and reconcile patient accounts
Communicate with insurance providers and patients regarding billing matters
Ensure HIPAA compliance and maintain accurate records

Qualifications:

2+ years of experience in medical billing and coding (physical therapy experience preferred)
Knowledge of insurance guidelines (Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers)
Proficiency in billing software and EHR systems
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Billing/coding certification preferred (e.g., CPB, CPC)

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
