Certified Medical Assistant – Annual Wellness Visit Pre-Screening

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

In addition to Certified Medical Assistant tasks, this job is responsible for completing telephone pre-screening calls in advance of patients’ Annual Wellness Visit.

Reporting to the Office Manager and under the supervision of the location Providers, the Certified Medical Assistant cares for patients and performs a wide variety of patient care activities, including but not limited to:

Assist providers adequately and accurately with exams and procedures.
Demonstrates the ability to carry out and complete providers orders.
Conscientious of work area to include keeping exam rooms and equipment cleaned, stocked, and in working condition.
Accurately administers medication and injections per provider orders.
Accurately documents necessary information in Electronic Medical Record System.
Operate office equipment according to manufacturer guidelines to include but not limited to EKG, autoclave, nebulizer, blood pressure cuff.
Prepares patient and exam room appropriately for exams, procedures, etc. making sure appropriate supplies are stocked.
Ensure smooth patient flow throughout the office by assisting in other areas when needed or as requested.
Documents and reports lab results on appropriate forms and in a timely manner.
Drawing blood, labeling specimens and completing orders in adherence with the guidelines of our accrediting body.
Adheres to infection control guidelines.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines.
Communicates effectively with patients in person and by telephone at his/her level of understanding.
Prepare forms and patient paperwork for provider review and signature.
Answers telephone by identifying person answering and assisting callers in a pleasant manner.
Screening, prioritizing, and returning patient calls according to office procedure.
Maintains operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes and making suggestions for improvement.
Reads and familiarizes oneself with all laboratory policies and procedures.
Stays current on all changes to laboratory policies and procedures.
Participates in continuing education and required competency testing for laboratory duties.
Accurately performs laboratory tests ordered by providers by following step-by-step instructions.
Timely and effectively communicates critical laboratory results to the ordering provider and documents actions appropriately.
Effectively navigates the Laboratory Information System to perform assigned duties.
Understands and observes policies set by OSHA, CLIA, COLA, and HIPAA.
Understands criteria for specimen acceptance, accurate records, and prepares reports completely.
Promotes positive public relations with patients, visitors, families, physicians, employees, and others.
Exhibits behavior and conduct consistent with CPC values for professionalism, quality, respect, teamwork, and pride.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Wellness Visit Pre-Screening

Completes assigned AWV pre-visit questionnaires with patients.
Utilizes clinical knowledge and judgement to ensure appropriate AWV information is documented.
Utilizes clinical knowledge and judgement to escalate urgent patient information to provider.
Effectively and accurately collects patient information with demonstrated ability to ask follow-up and probing questions with a high level of discretion and empathy.
Effectively communicates and delivers AWV data to assigned offices.
Maintains availability to clarify collected and documented AWV data.
Demonstrates effective use of time to conduct assigned AWV pre-visit questionnaires timely and forward AWV data to offices / providers.
Appropriately stores and purges AWV forms according to established protocols.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for Success:

Education, License/Certification, and Experience Requirements

Education: High School graduate or GED required.

License/Certification: Registered MA, Certified MA, or current LPN required. Basic Life Support or be able to obtain within 6 months.

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of Certified Medical Assistant experience

Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records
Knowledge of Annual Wellness Visit processes
Ability to type
Ability to effectively communicate via telephone
Ability to identify emergent medical situations
Demonstrate positive customer service skills in person and on the telephone
Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment, multi-task

Additional Job Details:

Work Setting: Well-lit medical office or business office environment

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Weekdays and ability to work flexible and extended hours, as needed.

Compensation: Market competitive base pay, commensurate with education and experience.
