About the First Responder Caregiver Role

Home Matters Caregiving is looking for an experienced First Responder Caregiver who is passionate about client care, reliability, and supporting clients and caregivers when unexpected staffing needs arise.

This role is ideal for an experienced caregiver who is comfortable stepping in when coverage is needed, particularly for last-minute callouts and high-need clients. First Responder Caregivers remain actively involved in hands-on care while helping ensure our clients receive uninterrupted, high-quality service.

You won't just be filling shifts — you'll be an important part of helping our team respond quickly when unexpected staffing needs arise and ensuring continuity of care for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

Provide compassionate, high-quality care to clients in their homes and communities.
Execute client care plans and accurately document daily activities and observations.
Provide administrative support within the agency office as needed.
Assist with caregiver orientations and field training.
Support new caregivers as they learn client-specific expectations and care procedures.
Be available to respond to last-minute caregiver callouts and staffing gaps, particularly for high-need clients.
Provide reliable coverage when unexpected staffing needs arise.
Help maintain continuity and consistency of care for clients.
Communicate effectively with clients, families, caregivers, and agency leadership.
Serve as a positive example of Home Matters Caregiving's standards, values, and approach to client care.
Maintain flexibility and responsiveness based on the needs of our clients and care team.

Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age (some exceptions may apply).
Minimum of 2 years of caregiving experience, specifically working with the senior population.
Strong communication and language skills necessary to effectively perform the duties of the position.
Valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between client locations and the agency office.
Ability to work independently while also functioning as a dependable member of the care team.
Professional, compassionate, and dependable approach to client and caregiver relationships.
Ability and willingness to respond to last-minute staffing needs and caregiver callouts.

Schedule

Full-Time | Consistent Daily Shifts

Because this is a first responder position, flexibility and availability are important. The First Responder Caregiver should be willing to assist with last-minute shift coverage and staffing gaps when needed.

Work Environment

This position may work across multiple environments, including:

Home Matters Caregiving agency office
Client homes
Skilled nursing communities
Independent living communities
Assisted living communities

Physical Requirements

The First Responder Caregiver must be able to:

Lift up to 50 pounds using safe and ergonomic movements.
Stand and walk for extended periods.
Assist with incontinence care, grooming, and bathing.
Experience with Hoyer lifts, gait belts, sit-to-stand equipment, and similar mobility equipment is preferred.
Reach, crouch, bend, and use hands and fingers as required to provide care.
Talk, hear, and see sufficiently to perform job responsibilities.
Safely operate a vehicle and travel to client locations.
Be physically and mentally capable of performing the essential functions of the position.
