The Financial Accountant performs accounting work in support of one or more Universities. Work within Accounting Operations-apply advanced accounting knowledge and ability in the preparation of a variety of complex regular and special financial transactions and reports. Essential Functions
Manage the closing processes including the maintenance of production check lists, processing/approving spreadsheet journals and all aspects of sub-module review and maintenance.
Research and analyze General Ledger transactions as necessary for end-users, management and auditors.
Produce annual financial report schedules as assigned, and complete balance sheet reconciliations.
Validate, budget check, generate and post all sub-module journals.
Produce quality checking reports and work with various departments to resolve unprocessed accounting lines.
Produce weekly fund balance transfer journal and maintain a monthly financial report tracking all University transfers to ensure accurate reporting at year-end.
Review and record all debt service entries as well as completing UTS quarterly transfer check sheets.
Review and correct any suspense lines created by sub-modules.
Working on special projects as assigned by supervisor. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of State of Texas accounting practices, including GASB standards and financial operations within higher education or government environments.
Strong analytical and reporting skills, including experience designing, producing, and interpreting reports.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey objectives and outcomes.
Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork, with the ability to work effectively across groups.
High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency with common office and analytical software tools.
Self-motivated with a commitment to delivering high-quality work and meeting deadlines. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent.
2 years of experience with accounting and financial reporting.
1+ years experience working with large ERP's.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in accounting or equivalent.
3+ years of experience with accounting and financial reporting.
Advanced PeopleSoft and reporting experience. Working Conditions
May work around standard office conditions.
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
Uses standard office equipment
Requires occasional evening or weekend hours
Remote work environment in Texas Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in TRS is mandatory.
