Full Job Description

Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Operator and team lead to join our manufacturing team. Aeon is a defense tech startup making advanced technical weapon systems in a prototyping environment that is transitioning to production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CNC programming, precision measurement, and mechanical fabrication. This role involves operating CNC lathe machines, interpreting technical drawings, and ensuring high-quality production standards. Candidates with experience in CAD/CAM software (NX CAM or Mastercam preferred), GD&T, and related manufacturing processes are encouraged to apply. We also will look for this person to be a team leader.

Responsibilities

Set up, program, and operate CNC lathe machines, primarily Fanuc-controlled systems
Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications to produce precise components
Utilize CAD software such as SolidWorks and CAM programming tools for part development and machining processes
Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines to ensure parts meet specifications
Maintain and troubleshoot CNC equipment including lathes, mills, and electrical discharge machining (EDM) tools
Select appropriate tooling and fixtures for various machining tasks
Conduct routine inspections of machined parts using precision measuring instruments to verify accuracy
Follow safety protocols including proper use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and forklift operation when necessary
Support lean manufacturing initiatives by optimizing machining processes and reducing waste
Assist with assembly or integration of machined components as needed

Qualifications

Proven experience operating 3- and 5-axis CNC lathe machines with Fanuc controls or similar systems
Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages and CAM software
Proficiency in reading blueprints and applying GD&T principles for precision manufacturing
Mechanical knowledge of machining processes including electrical discharge machining (EDM), plastics injection molding, and welding techniques
Skilled in using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM)
Familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD software for part design and modification (NX preferred)
Basic math skills necessary for precise measurements and calculations in machining tasks
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, tooling setups, and forklifts safely and efficiently
Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to improve process efficiency
Experience with plastics injection molding or assembly work is a plus but not required
