About the role
The Warehouse Operations Manager is responsible for leading all warehouse operations, including inventory management, order fulfillment, shipping, receiving, warehouse organization, labor planning, and team performance. This role ensures the efficient and accurate fulfillment of retail, Amazon, TikTok and Shopify orders while maintaining a safe, organized, and high-performing warehouse environment.
The Warehouse Manager drives operational excellence through strong leadership, process improvement, performance management, workforce planning, and the implementation of effective processes and controls that ensure inventory accuracy, order quality and accuracy, and on-time shipment performance. This position plays a critical role in supporting company growth by delivering exceptional service levels, operational efficiency, and cost-effective warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations & Fulfillment
- Oversee all day-to-day warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, inventory control, order picking, packing, shipping, and returns processing.
- Ensure accurate and timely fulfillment of retail, wholesale, and direct-to-consumer orders in accordance with customer requirements and service-level commitments.
- Develop and maintain efficient workflows that optimize labor utilization, warehouse capacity, and operational throughput.
- Monitor fulfillment volumes and staffing requirements to ensure resources are aligned with business demands.
- Establish operational priorities and ensure warehouse resources are effectively allocated to meet business objectives and customer expectations.
- Create effective work flows for outsourced labor for re-kitting and re-pack initiatives that mitigate risk of errors to the modified products.
Team Leadership & Performance Management
- Lead, coach, and develop warehouse supervisors and team members to achieve operational goals.
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability for productivity, accuracy, quality, and safety standards.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve departmental objectives.
- Conduct performance reviews, employee development planning, and succession planning activities.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.
- Manage employee daily priorities and tasks and clearly define expectations and metrics.
- Approve time in the time entry system for payroll and ensure time off and attendance policies are followed and recorded.
Inventory Management & Controls
- Design and organize the storage and layout of inventory locations and mappings to ensure the highest level of accuracy, traceability and pick and pack operations for orders
- Maintain accurate inventory records through cycle counting, reconciliation, and inventory control procedures.
- Plan the annual physical inventory count procedures and manage all teams, train warehouse personnel, ready the warehouse for the count, coordinate with the auditor and investigate differences for item level discrepancies and lot level discrepancies between the warehouse and NetSuite.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard inventory and reduce errors, losses, and shrinkage.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure the accuracy of inventory, FIFO use of inventory, to identify risks of obsolescence and timely write-offs, to maintain compliance with FDA requirements and the most efficient use of warehouse space to meet operational needs.
- Ensure compliance with established receiving, picking, packing, shipping, and inventory management procedures.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Partner with Supply Chain and Finance teams to ensure inventory accuracy and reporting integrity.
- Thoroughly understand NetSuite and how the movements at the warehouse are reflected and recorded in the system and assist in designing processes that ensure accurate NetSuite records.
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Identify opportunities to improve warehouse efficiency, order accuracy, throughput, and cost effectiveness.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices across warehouse operations.
- Utilize data and performance metrics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead process improvement projects focused on increasing productivity, reducing fulfillment costs, improving inventory accuracy, and enhancing customer service.
- Apply Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies to optimize warehouse performance.
- Evaluate warehouse layouts, storage methods, workflows, and equipment utilization to maximize operational efficiency.
Workforce Planning & Labor Management
- Develop labor plans and staffing models that support seasonal fluctuations, growth initiatives, and service-level requirements.
- Manage employee scheduling, overtime, and workforce allocation to balance productivity and cost objectives.
- Partner with Human Resources on recruiting, onboarding, training, employee relations, and retention initiatives.
- Build and maintain a high-performing warehouse team through effective leadership, coaching, and talent development.
- Effectively manage outsourced, temporary labor and re-kitting, re-packing projects to ensure they are performed accurately and on time.
Budget & Financial Management
- Develop, manage, and monitor warehouse operating budgets.
- Track labor, freight, supplies, equipment, and facility-related expenses to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies while maintaining service and quality standards.
- Provide regular reporting and analysis on warehouse performance, labor utilization, and operating costs.
Warehouse Systems & Technology
- Serve as the primary business owner for warehouse management systems (WMS) and related operational technologies.
- Ensure accurate system transactions and data integrity across inventory, receiving, fulfillment, and shipping activities.
- Partner with IT and Operations teams to implement system enhancements, process automation, and technology improvements.
- Utilize system reporting and analytics to identify trends, improve performance, and support decision-making.
Shipping & Customer Service Performance
- Ensure orders are shipped accurately and on time to meet customer expectations and business commitments.
- Monitor shipping performance, carrier relationships, and fulfillment metrics to optimize service and cost.
- Resolve operational issues that may impact customer deliveries or service levels.
- Collaborate with Customer Service, Sales, and Operations teams to address fulfillment challenges and support business growth.
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized warehouse environment.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and workplace safety standards.
- Lead safety training, incident investigations, and corrective action efforts to minimize workplace risks.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, transportation, and warehouse regulations.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of warehouse, distribution, or fulfillment management experience, including leadership of supervisors and warehouse teams.
- Experience managing warehouse operations supporting both retail and direct-to-consumer fulfillment channels.
- Demonstrated success improving productivity, fulfillment accuracy, inventory control, and on-time shipping performance.
- Experience managing warehouse budgets, labor planning, and operational metrics.
- Strong understanding of inventory management, warehouse controls, fulfillment operations, and warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Position is based at our Warehouse location in Austin, TX and will require 5 days onsite weekly.
Preferred
- Experience in a high-growth consumer products, manufacturing, wholesale, or e-commerce environment.
- Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification.
- Experience implementing warehouse automation, system enhancements, or large-scale operational improvements.
- Proficiency with NetSuite, Shipstation, Shopify, and EDI.
