Austin Achieve Public Schools is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school preparing Austin youth to attend and excel at the nation’s top colleges and universities.

The Director of Assessment and Accountability owns the systems that tell Austin Achieve how its scholars and teachers are performing and what the district must do next. The Director carries end-to-end responsibility for state and federal accountability (A-F ratings and required improvement plans), the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), district assessment administration, and the data infrastructure that turns results into action for campus and network leaders. Key measures of the role’s success include A-F accountability ratings, STAAR/EOC results, NWEA MAP growth, interim assessment data, and TIA designation outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

State & Federal Accountability

Serve as the district lead for A-F accountability: monitor domain performance, run predictive modeling (TEAL A-F predictor, Schoolytics, DMAC) against interim data, and project ratings for leadership.
Manage the development, submission, and monitoring of required improvement plans, including Targeted Improvement Plans (TIP), Turnaround Plans (TAP), and District/Campus Improvement Plans (DIP/CIP), along with the Comprehensive Needs Assessment and ESF diagnostics.
Maintain TEA system access and submissions (TEAL, ISAM intervention/stage/activity reporting) and assemble required artifacts for board review and approval.
Coordinate Site-Based Decision Committee documentation and prepare accountability data and narratives for the Board of Directors and Education Committee (Ed Comm).

Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA)

Own the annual TIA program submission to TEA and serve as the district’s primary TIA/TEA liaison.
Manage the data systems, T-TESS observation calibration, and student growth measures that feed designations; calculate and verify designations and allotment payouts through SCOMS and the verification process.
Administer the TIA spending plan and its board review, including tracking the 10% district-use allotment.

Assessment Systems & Administration

Oversee NWEA MAP administration across all campuses and act as the primary liaison between AAPS and NWEA.
Manage the interim assessment cycle: create and revise interims and writing tasks with academic teams, and administer scoring across schools.
Coordinate the district testing calendar and STAAR/EOC administration logistics with campus teams.
Manage the MOY/EOY T-TESS observation windows and maintain the T-TESS / Designation predictor tools.

Data Analysis, Visualization & Reporting

Build and maintain district dashboards (Org Goals, Assessment, IA/STAAR) and progress-monitoring trackers.
Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis, root-cause analysis, and data storytelling that drives instructional decisions.
Set year-long and cycle goals with leaders, pairing each outcome (lag) target with named weekly lead measures that leaders can control, and monitor progress against both.
Produce data analysis and reporting for external grants and partners (e.g., MSDF, CSGF, RSSP/ANet).

Data Systems & Compliance Management

Administer core data platforms (OnDataSuite, DMAC, Schoolytics, LookerStudio) and manage licenses and renewals.
Maintain the district compliance calendar and ensure on-time submission of every state and federal reporting deadline.

Professional Development & Collaboration

Design and deliver professional development for instructional staff and leaders on data use, assessment literacy, and T-TESS calibration.
Work closely with the District Academic Team, campus leadership teams (ILT/CLT), and the Chief Academic Officer on continuous improvement, and support additional external accountability or development tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

Deep belief in Austin Achieve’s mission and a demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and cultural humility.
Proven track record of improving scholar outcomes, particularly in historically underserved communities.
Experience with Texas accountability (A-F), TIA, or state assessment strongly preferred.
Strong expertise in assessment, data-driven decision-making, and building/validating K-12 assessments; experience with student data systems (e.g., OnDataSuite, DMAC, NWEA MAP).
Advanced Microsoft Excel; familiarity with SQL, LookerStudio, or other BI/data tools a strong plus.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute complex initiatives under pressure.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to build trust and mobilize teachers, families, and community partners.
Previous classroom teaching experience using data for instructional decisions preferred; charter or CMO experience beneficial.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
