Commission Range: $137,000 – $158,000+ annually (Hourly; Commissions; Bonuses + Benefits)

Position Summary

The Tow Truck Operator II (Night | PPI-C-IM) plays a vital role in A&A Wrecker and Recovery’s towing operations, performing light to medium duty towing, winching, and recovery including Private Property, Consent, and Law Enforcement IM tows.

Operators must work safely, lawfully, and efficiently while following all state, local, and company regulations. The role requires excellent judgment, strong communication, mechanical awareness, and adaptability in diverse towing environments, while collaborating with dispatch, VSF, law enforcement, vehicle owners, and company leadership. Tow Truck Operators II are expected to uphold safety, professionalism, service quality, compliance, and company values in all interactions and operational duties.

Performance Objectives

Safely operate and maintain tow trucks in compliance with all traffic laws, safety standards, company policies, TDLR regulations, municipal ordinances, and VSF procedures. Adhere to all TDLR licensee requirements and A&A Wrecker operational policies.
Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professionalism while meeting or exceeding company KPIs for safety, response time, service quality, and customer satisfaction.
Communicate professionally and courteously with dispatch, VSF employees, company leadership, customers, property representatives, and law enforcement.
Follow all safety protocols when working in high-traffic, hazardous, or emergency environments.
Execute PPI, Consent, and Law Enforcement Incident Management (IM) tows professionally and accurately.
Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of trucks and equipment and report maintenance or safety issues immediately.
Review and understand tow instructions, dispatch notes, and service documentation before each assignment.
Respond promptly to all dispatch calls, including impounds, recoveries, and police-directed incidents.
Conduct thorough scene assessments to determine the safest and most efficient approach.
Safely maneuver tow trucks and equipment in tight or hazardous environments, including parking lots, garages, highways, and accident scenes.
Ensure proper rigging, load angles, and securement to prevent damage to vehicles or equipment.
Complete accurate and detailed documentation for every service, including photos, vehicle condition, times, and locations.
Perform winching, recovery, and scene assistance for stuck, disabled, or immobilized vehicles.
Identify, report, and document safety risks, accidents, or near-miss events according to company procedures.

Communication: Communicates effectively, clearly, honestly, and professionally with customers, law enforcement, dispatch, VSFs, team members, and company leadership.
Mechanical & Towing Knowledge: Applies intentional, practical knowledge of vehicle systems and towing dynamics to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Judgment & Decision-Making: Demonstrates disciplined, intentional decision-making and sound judgment in dynamic, high-risk, or stressful situations.
Customer Service: Acts with integrity and professionalism, providing solution-oriented service while maintaining composure in challenging interactions.
Team Collaboration: Works transparently and cooperatively with dispatch, VSFs, and leadership to ensure aligned, consistent operations.
Professionalism & Accountability: Upholds integrity, accountability, and discipline by following company policies, owning actions, and maintaining professional conduct.
Results-Oriented Performance: Consistently delivers measurable results by meeting or exceeding safety, response time, service quality, documentation, and operational KPIs.

Qualifications

Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record; must be maintained throughout employment.
Must pass pre-employment and random drug screenings.
Valid Incident Management TDLR License (must maintain active status).
Valid City of Austin (COA) Tow License.
Working knowledge of vehicles and basic mechanical systems, including drivetrains, tow points, and safe vehicle handling procedures.
Reliable transportation to and from work.
Must have a reliable smartphone with a working camera and data plan.
Strong problem-solving, situational awareness, and interpersonal skills with a customer-first mindset.
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Ability to sit, drive, and perform duties for extended periods.
Ability to operate tow and recovery equipment in all outdoor conditions.
Comfortable working in Texas weather (heat, cold, rain, and humidity).
Ability to stand, kneel, bend, climb, and move on uneven terrain.
Must maintain alertness and coordination during recovery and roadside operations.
Ability to safely perform towing, recovery, and driving operations during nighttime and low-visibility conditions.

Schedule (II=Night)

Night Shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. (5 days / week)
The schedule includes weekdays, weekends, and holidays (when a scheduled shift falls on a holiday), and may require on-call availability for operational or emergency needs.
