Full Job Description

Job Title: Controller / Business Manager

Position Overview

The Controller / Business Manager will oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial management for the practice. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, strong analytic ability, experience in healthcare financial operations, and proficiency with accounting systems.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Reporting

Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure accuracy in revenue cycle accounting, patient billing reconciliations, and healthcare-specific reporting.
Ability to work with the revenue cycle management team to address issues in a timely manner and propose and implement corrective actions.
Must display analytic abilities to pull raw data into usable and presentable form for the Chief Financial Officer and Shareholders.
Lead the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses to support strategic decision-making.

Leadership & Department Oversight

Show the ability to integrate and collaborate with existing internal accounting and operational personnel.
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable work environment.
Set departmental goals, monitor performance, and ensure deadlines are met.
Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day accounting issues, escalating only complex matters to the CFO.

Internal Controls & Compliance

Maintain and enhance internal control procedures to safeguard company assets.
Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations.
Support internal and external audits and regulatory reviews, including healthcare-specific financial compliance, as necessary.

Systems & Process Improvement

Oversee the use of accounting systems.
Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, workflows, and reporting capabilities.
Lead or assist in accounting system upgrades, process automation, and efficiency initiatives.
Research and introduce opportunities for implementation of AI into the accounting processes.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA or CMA designation preferred

Experience

Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory role.
QuickBooks experience required.
Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
eClinicalWorks (eCW) electronic medical record system experience highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of Cash Basis of Accounting and healthcare accounting practices.
Strong understanding of Revenue Cycle Management within the Healthcare Industry
Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas).
Ability to communicate complex financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
High level of integrity and commitment to accuracy.
