Full Job Description

Job Overview:

At the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, we deliver reliable water to a region with 19 million people—and to accomplish this, we rely on a team of talented employees: innovators, problem-solvers, and collaborators who make it all possible.

There is currently one opening for the Assistant Engineer I position located at Metropolitan’s Weymouth water treatment facility in La Verne, California.

This recruitment may result in an eligibility list.

Job Summary

There is one position as an Assistant Engineer I, with an emphasis in the electrical field, for the Construction Management Unit. As an Assistant Engineer I, you will be responsible for learning and assisting with construction inspection and testing and on-site contract administration on heavy public works construction contracts. The successful candidate will learn and assist in assuring that constructed work and furnished materials meet specified standards. This position involves coordination with Metropolitan’s design engineers, project managers, construction managers, operations personnel, technical specialists and other agencies in an exciting, challenging environment with broad opportunities for career advancement.

What You’ll Do

Learns and assists with construction inspections to verify compliance with contract requirements, plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
Learns and assists with contract correspondence, including reviewing and responding to contractor submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs), and other project documentation.
Learns and assists with reviewing contractor work plans, procedures, schedules, and payment requests and developing independent cost estimates.
Learns and assists in investigating construction deficiencies and documenting findings to support corrective actions.
Document construction activities, maintain project records, and prepare technical reports.
Collaborate with engineers, contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders to support successful project delivery.

Schedule: 5/8: Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field by hire date.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
