Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)

The Parkinson’s Empowerment Place | Baltimore, MD

Join us in creating a new model of Parkinson’s care.

The Parkinson’s Empowerment Place is a startup physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, fitness and wellness center in Baltimore, Maryland dedicated to helping people with Parkinson’s disease live stronger, more active, and more empowered lives.

We are building a collaborative, community-centered environment where rehabilitation and wellness come together under one roof. We are looking for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) who is passionate about Parkinson’s disease, neurologic rehabilitation, communication, swallowing, and helping people maintain their voice, independence, and quality of life.

The Opportunity

As an early member of our team, you will have the opportunity to help shape both the clinical culture and patient experience of a new organization. You will work alongside physical therapists, occupational therapists, PTAs, fitness professionals, and wellness specialists to provide coordinated, individualized care.

This is an exciting opportunity for an SLP who wants more than a traditional clinical role—you will help build a program and a community from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and treat individuals with Parkinson’s disease and related neurologic conditions.
Provide individualized speech-language therapy based on each person's goals, abilities, needs, and stage of disease.
Address communication challenges associated with Parkinson’s disease, including reduced vocal loudness, articulation, speech clarity, and functional communication.
Evaluate and treat swallowing and related feeding difficulties when within the clinician’s scope of practice.
Provide education and strategies to support safe and effective communication and swallowing.
Incorporate evidence-based approaches for improving voice, speech, communication, and swallowing function.
Collaborate closely with PT, PTA, OT, fitness, and wellness team members.
Educate patients, families, and caregivers about strategies that can support communication, participation, and quality of life.
Help patients transition from skilled therapy into appropriate long-term wellness, communication, and community programs when appropriate.
Participate in the development of Parkinson’s-focused programs, classes, educational opportunities, and support activities.
Contribute to a positive, encouraging environment where patients feel empowered rather than defined by their diagnosis.
Maintain appropriate documentation and professional standards.

What We’re Looking For

Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
Current Maryland Speech-Language Pathologist license or eligibility for Maryland licensure.
Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) or eligibility for certification.
Strong interest in treating individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurologic conditions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A collaborative, creative, and entrepreneurial mindset.
A passion for helping people maintain their voice, communication, independence, and quality of life.
Someone who enjoys developing meaningful relationships with patients and becoming part of their long-term support system.
A willingness to learn, grow, and help develop innovative Parkinson’s-focused programming.

Parkinson’s-specific experience is highly valued, but we are also interested in SLPs who are eager to develop deep expertise in this area. Experience with LSVT LOUD, SPEAK OUT!, or other Parkinson’s-specific speech and voice programs is a plus.

The Parkinson’s Empowerment Place provides a fun, safe, and supportive environment to empower people living with Parkinson’s disease to maximize their healthspan, improve their quality of life, and build community by participating in PD-specific group exercise classes, educational opportunities, support groups, functional skills training, and therapeutic activities, including those provided in one-on-one physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy sessions. We are a 501(c)(3) organization envisioning a power place for the PD community where resources and services are offered under one roof.
