Full Job Description

Important: This is a hands-on outdoor marina operations position, not a general management or office role. Candidates with prior marina, boatyard, marine service, travel lift, or related marine industry experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

About Old Bay Marina

Old Bay Marina is a family-owned marina on the Chesapeake Bay seeking an experienced, hands-on marina professional to oversee day-to-day operations.

This is not a desk job. This is a working manager position for someone who enjoys being on the docks, in the yard, interacting with customers, operating equipment, solving problems, and taking ownership of a property as if it were their own.

The ideal candidate has prior marina, boatyard, dockmaster, marine service, or related marine industry experience and is comfortable working independently without constant supervision.

About the Role

At Old Bay Marina, no two days are the same.

Some days are busy with haul-outs, launches, customer inquiries, and coordinating service work. Other days are slower and require someone who can identify priorities, stay productive, and keep the marina operating at a high standard.

This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, notices problems before they become bigger issues, and enjoys the variety that comes with managing a small marina.

While part-time help and contractors may assist with certain projects, this role requires someone who is comfortable operating independently and taking ownership of daily operations.

Responsibilities

Coordinate haul-outs, launches, and seasonal storage
Operate marina equipment, including travel lift operations
Perform routine dock walks and safety inspections
Monitor boats, dock lines, docks, and marina facilities
Answer phones and assist customers
Sell slips, storage, and marina services
Maintain accurate records of customer communications, scheduling, and follow-up tasks
Coordinate with mechanics, contractors, and marine service providers
Conduct routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks
Perform general property upkeep, organization, and improvement projects
Assist with mowing, facility maintenance, and marina appearance
Identify operational issues and take initiative to resolve them
Monitor local marina trends, pricing, occupancy, and industry developments to help identify opportunities for growth

Qualifications

Marina, boatyard, dockmaster, marine service, or related marine industry experience strongly preferred
Travel lift experience strongly preferred
Strong understanding of marina operations and customer service
Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities
Strong organizational and communication skills
Comfortable interacting with customers, boat owners, mechanics, and contractors
Reliable, professional, and self-motivated
Physically capable of outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Ability to lift, climb, and perform hands-on marina work
