Full Job Description

Business Development Manager – Chicago, IL Area

Position Summary:

Designer Greetings, one of the largest greeting card publishers in North America, is currently seeking a Business Development Manager covering Chicago, IL area.

Responsibilities include management and expansion of existing business, overseeing and working with store service merchandisers, and prospecting and closing new business in the independent grocery, drug and specialty shop channels. Position Reports to VP of Sales.

Essential Functions:

· Secures orders from existing and potential customers by means of visiting the customer facility on a regular call cycle basis.

· Oversee and support assigned service merchandisers to verify greeting card department is functioning properly.

· Secures opportunities to quote on customer requirements.

· Follow up (by phone or visit) on quotations submitted to customers.

· Establishes professional customer/vendor relationship with appropriate customer personnel (purchasing, quality assurance, management, and other key personnel.

· Performs all assigned duties in the assigned sales territory.

· Provides a territory sales forecast on a monthly basis.

Additional Responsibilities:

· Performs any directly related appropriate duties assigned by the VP of Sales.

· Keeps management informed of competition as well as progress to established goals.

Job Qualifications

· Wholesale or retail sales and/or merchandising representative with at least 3-5 years of experience (prior experience in greeting card or gift industry a plus).

· Ability to work in a high-intensity, fast-paced environment

· Ability to meet physical demands of jobs, including lifting, standing and walking,

· Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, self-starter, sense of urgency, personable and well organized.

· Willingness to travel extensively by car and occasionally by air.

This position is ideally based in the Detroit and Grand Rapids, Michigan Area.
