Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Job Description: As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) , you will provide personalized support to individuals with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, or other life challenges. You will assist clients in achieving greater independence and improving their quality of life through compassionate care and tailored services. This role is vital in helping individuals thrive in a supportive, safe, and enriching environment.

Responsibilities:

Assist clients with daily activities, including personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing, etc.), meal preparation, and mobility assistance
Help clients with medication reminders and other health-related needs
Foster a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment for clients
Develop and follow individualized care plans to support clients’ physical, emotional, and social needs
Encourage and support clients in achieving personal goals and independence
Provide companionship and engage clients in social, recreational, and community activities
Document client progress and report any changes in health, behavior, or condition to supervisors and family members
Assist with light housekeeping and maintaining a clean living environment
Work closely with families, healthcare professionals, and team members to ensure high-quality care and support
Advocate for the rights and well-being of clients, ensuring their dignity and independence are respected
Assist clients with basic personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing)
Help with meal preparation, light housekeeping, and mobility assistance
Offer companionship and emotional support
Follow a personalized care plan and report changes to the supervisor

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require a college degree in healthcare or related field)
Experience in caregiving or working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required
Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with clients, families, and team members
Must have a patient, empathetic, and reliable demeanor
Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow detailed care plans
Ability to manage and assist with personal care tasks, including lifting and mobility support
CPR and First Aid certification required
CPI certification required (or must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment)
DSP 1 (within 3 months)
DSP 2 (within 6 months)
Current Physical and TB Test(within current year)
Must pass a background check and drug screening
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required (for some positions)
