Position

We are seeking a positive, enthusiastic, multitasker to join our team. The ideal candidate is ambitious and has a passion for helping others. This position provides support and resources to victims of sexual assault while advocating to end sexual assault and abuse within our community at the training and educational level for various age groups and marginalized populations. We have an immediate opening for a self-motivated individual to join on our Sexual Assault Victim’s Care Unit. Under the Director’s supervision, the Community Relations Advocate will work independently, take initiative to resolve problems, exercise judgement, interpret guidelines efficiently, and ensure deadlines are met. The Sexual Assault Victims Care Unit is an Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA) member Rape Crisis Center serving Madison, St. Clair and Jersey Counties.

A passionate and dedicated Community Relations Advocate will serve as a vital link between our organization and the diverse communities we serve. In this role, you will champion community engagement initiatives, foster positive relationships, and advocate for the needs of children, families, and high-risk populations experiencing sexual violence. Your approach will help build trust, promote awareness of available services, and ensure that community voices are heard and valued. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through proactive outreach, compassionate support, and collaborative problem-solving.

Duties

Develop and implement community outreach strategies to connect with culturally diverse populations and underserved groups
Act as a liaison between families, service providers, schools, and community organizations to facilitate access to services and resources.
Provide crisis intervention and crisis management support to individuals experiencing sexual violence situations and emergencies
Conduct client communication efforts, including explaining services and documenting interactions clearly in writing
Conducting Medical Advocacy Go Outs assisting and supporting survivors at the hospital during an evidence collection kit on an on-call rotational schedule.
Organize educational workshops.
Recruits/trains/supervises new volunteers for Metro East ESC.
Recruit volunteers within the community, online, in schools, and more.
Reviews and approves volunteer applications for Metro East ESC.
Trains all new volunteers for their position once approved for the volunteer position by the recruiter.
Supervises all volunteers' tasks and services.
Answer hotline calls
Attend and sign up for on-call after-hour shifts (can vary month to month and are weekday shifts from 4:30PM until 8:30AM the following morning wherein you may or may not conduct a medical advocacy go out).
Host resource tabling events within the community to provide information on our services while gathering further resources and recruiting volunteers.
Assist with confidential office procedures (filing, documentation and other assigned tasks).
Conduct community professional trainings regarding prevention of sexual assault topics such as safe dates, body safety, bringing in the bystander or other related topics upon request.
Conduct prevention education sessions and presentations to students from elementary school and up through College on safe dates, healthy relationships, consent, body safety, crisis intervention, bringing in the bystander and more!
Attend networking meetings or local community events to build institutional partnerships within the community and mobilize the community to help with assisting in combatting sexual violence at all levels.
Host, plan, or attend events on behalf of the agency or for the agency to spread awareness about sexual assault and promote agency advocacy, counselling, and prevention education services.
Assists with Fundraising efforts.
Create or update training, educational, and promotional materials for Metro East ESC (brochures, posters, educational lessons, professional trainings, etc).
Assistance with moving or assembling furniture if necessary.
Distributing flyers within the community.
Maintains individual volunteer files to document training and services.
Volunteer training is documented in individual volunteer files. The record of training includes a list of training topics and length of training segments. A copy of the training certificate is in the file and other important documentation for compliance.
Supervisory notes and other written assessments of volunteers (i.e. volunteer application) are included in individual volunteer files.
Volunteers are supervised by this position. Supervision of direct service volunteers is provided at least quarterly through in-person or telephone contact. Supervision contacts are recorded in individual volunteer files. Volunteer meetings may be counted as supervision.
Volunteer meetings are conducted monthly for purposes of continuing education.
Volunteers will be provided with updates on local procedures, changes in laws and other current information on a quarterly basis.

Requirements:

Experience working with children, families, or high-risk populations in social services or related fields
Strong communication skills—both verbal and written—to effectively advocate for clients and collaborate with community partners
Ability to manage crises calmly and efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude under pressure
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and correspondence
Experience working with culturally diverse communities to ensure inclusive outreach efforts
Ability to support families navigating complex challenges related to child & family services

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services or related field or 2+ years’ experience in related field.
Ability to use personal vehicle for agency travel/valid Driver’s License and insurance.
Be willing to travel throughout the state of Illinois to provide prevention services and to attend trainings overnight.
The ability to network, build and grow professional relationships with community partners, schools, and organizations.
Must have flexible schedule, including weekends on occasion, for varying hours.
The ability to deliver a variety of teaching techniques.
Possess the ability to confidently speak in a variety of public settings with diverse populations and various crowd capacities.
Requires DCFS background check and UCIA Fingerprint background checks.
Requires completion of 40-hour Training, Civil Rights Compliance Training, Mandated Reporter Training and any other trainings deemed essential for the position as identified by Supervisors.
Requires quarterly supervision and continuing education provided by Metro East ESC, ICASA, or other approved training entity.
