Full Job Description

Staff Accountant II

Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations with a focus on project revenue and cost budgets, expense data imports, payroll processing, general ledger and support to the Controller. This mid-level role requires strong technical accounting skills and works closely with Accounts Payable, Project Managers, HR and the Controller to ensure accurate financial records and support key accounting processes. This role has the ability to grow into a Senior Accountant role.

Key Responsibilities:

Weekly payroll processing, including review and integrity of payroll posting to the General Ledger.
Prepare and process job billings against project revenue budget.
Maintain project cost and revenue budgets and collaborate with project managers to ensure proper cost allocation and billing accuracy.
Maintain accurate financial records for closed projects, following up on any un-billed revenues or contract adjustments needed prior to closing.
Review contracts and supporting documentation to ensure billing and waiver compliance.
Support bank and account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
Perform expense data imports and validate data integrity within the accounting system.
Assist the Controller with reconciling balance sheet liability accounts, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Assist with month-end and year-end close as directed by the Controller, including journal entries, reconciliations and financial audit support.
Support internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in project-based or job cost environments.
Solid understanding of accounting principles.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis).
Experience with accounting or ERP systems.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in construction, engineering, or professional services industries.
Familiarity with project-based billing and budgeting processes.
Experience with Foundation, SAP, and billing software such as Textura, ProCore, etc.
Experience with managing contract waivers.

Work Environment:

Office-based work environment.
May require additional hours during close cycles or billing periods.
