Position Overview
A2 Tank & Steel is looking for a General Laborer / Shop Helper to support daily shop operations related to the receiving, handling, preparation, painting, and organization of steel materials used in the fabrication of industrial tanks and steel structures.
The successful candidate will work closely with welders, fabricators, and supervisors to help keep materials, tools, and work areas organized and support the production process.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to learn and grow within the industrial steel fabrication industry. Previous experience is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, unload, and organize incoming steel materials.
- Assist with handling and moving steel plates, beams, pipe, structural shapes, and other materials.
- Identify, sort, and properly store materials in designated areas.
- Prepare materials for different stages of the fabrication process.
- Clean and prepare steel surfaces for fabrication and painting.
- Assist with painting and application of protective coatings as directed.
- Support welders and fabricators with material preparation and handling.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely.
- Assist with measuring, marking, cutting, and preparing materials under supervision.
- Load and unload materials and move them throughout the shop as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow company safety procedures and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Properly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or other safety concerns to a supervisor.
- Assist with general shop and production activities as needed.
- Perform other duties related to shop operations as assigned.
Qualifications & RequirementsRequired
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to perform physical labor and remain on your feet for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable and dependable with good attendance.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and instructions.
- Ability to work full-time.
Preferred, but Not Required
- Previous experience in construction, manufacturing, steel fabrication, metalworking, or a similar industrial environment.
- Experience working as a General Laborer, Shop Helper, Fabrication Helper, Construction Laborer, or similar position.
- Experience using basic hand and power tools.
- Experience handling steel or other construction materials.
- Experience with surface preparation or painting of steel structures.
- Basic knowledge of measurements and measuring tools.
- Previous experience working in an environment with established safety procedures.
- Basic English communication skills; Spanish is a plus.
Physical Requirements
This position requires regular physical activity, including:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Lifting and carrying materials up to 50 lbs.
- Bending, reaching, kneeling, and climbing as required.
- Working in a shop and industrial environment.
- Working around steel, tools, equipment, and industrial materials.
- Following all required safety procedures and wearing appropriate PPE.
