Full Job Description

Job Summary

Our goal is to find a dependable caregiver who will treat our mother with dignity, compassion, respect, and kindness while helping her remain safe, comfortable, and supported in her home. We hope to find someone who will become a trusted part of her care team and make a meaningful difference in her quality of life.

***Additional IHSS hours may become available for caregivers who demonstrate reliability and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

Assist with safe transfers between the bed, wheelchair, recliner, and toilet. >Toileting assistance and complete incontinence care.
Change briefs promptly and maintain excellent personal hygiene. >Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, and skin care.
Prepare simple meals and snacks according to an outlined meal plan. >Encourage hydration and monitor meals as needed.
Light housekeeping related to her care (laundry, dishes, tidying her living area). >Monitor for changes in condition and communicate concerns promptly. >Provide companionship while respecting her independence and dignity. >Follow all care instructions provided by the family.

MUST:

Be physically capable of assisting with supporting/transferring a client weighing approximately 145–160 lbs.
Experience using proper body mechanics and any available transfer equipment is preferred.
Be patient, calm, compassionate, and respectful.
Be able to follow written and verbal care instructions consistently.
Have reliable transportation and excellent attendance.
Be comfortable providing hands-on personal care, including toileting, changing briefs, bathing, dressing, grooming, and hygiene assistance.
Be willing to prepare simple, nutritious meals according to an outlined meal plan. - Be comfortable working in a home with a small, friendly support dog.
Have strong communication skills and promptly report any concerns or changes in her condition.
Experience caring for individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), dialysis patients, mobility impairments, or other neurological conditions is preferred but not required. A willingness to learn is essential. -
Covering shifts for the other weekend caregiver. - Filling in when weekday caregivers are unavailable. - Assisting during vacations, appointments, or other scheduling needs.

Qualifications:

Proven experience working as a caregiver in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings.
Strong background in patient observation, monitoring vital signs, medication administration, and assisting with ADLs.
Knowledge of dementia care, Alzheimer’s disease, memory care techniques, and hospice support is highly desirable.
Ability to perform manual handling tasks including heavy lifting and patient transfers safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts.
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
Certification in CPR and First Aid is required; additional certifications such as nursing assistant (CNA), personal transportation assistance training or social work experience are a plus.
Excellent communication skills for engaging with clients’ families and healthcare teams effectively.
