Full Job Description

Store Manager — OCHA Matcha, Serramonte Center (Daly City)

$33–$35/hour plus overtime · Up to $12,000 annual bonus · Medical, dental, and vision · Opening October/November 2026

We are opening a matcha café at Serramonte Center this October/November, and we are hiring the manager before we open — not after. You will help choose the team, build the systems, and then run the store you built.

Read this part first

Most café manager jobs in this market hand you a salary and then schedule you fifty hours. We don't do that.

You are paid hourly, with overtime, in accordance with California law. Every hour over 40 is paid at time and a half. We are not going to classify you as exempt and keep your overtime.
You are on full pay from your first day — weeks before we open, and regardless of whether the opening date moves. Construction, permit, and landlord risk is ours, not yours.
Our second lease is already signed, with that store opening January 2027. The person who opens Serramonte well is the person we want opening the next one.

What it pays

Base rate: $33.00–$35.00 per hour, depending on experience

Scheduled hours: Approximately 44 hours per week

Annual base, including overtime: $79,000–$84,000

Performance bonus: Up to $12,000 per year

Target total cash for a strong performer: Approximately $93,000–$97,000

The bonus is not vague. It has three parts, and we will show you the exact scorecard in the interview:

Opening bonus — $3,000. $1,500 when we open on schedule, $1,500 at 90 days.
Monthly operating bonus — up to $500 per month ($6,000 per year). Paid monthly against store sales, discount rate, waste, product quality checks, and health inspection results.
Annual team bonus — $3,000. Paid on retention and on developing a shift lead who can run the store without you for two full weeks.

The store

About 350 square feet at one of the busiest centers on the Peninsula — a compact, deliberately high-volume build designed to do over $1 million a year out of a very small footprint. Matcha drinks, ice cream, and Japanese-style desserts. Mall hours are Monday–Saturday 10–9 and Sunday 11–7. Peak is Saturday afternoon, and peak is the whole game.

Before we open, you will

Recruit, interview, and hire the opening team of 7–9
Run onboarding and opening training
Build the first schedules and labor plan
Set up POS, menu, and payment systems
Work with equipment vendors, contractors, and suppliers, and track delivery, installation, and testing
Follow up on permits, inspections, and licenses
Set up inventory, ordering, receiving, and storage
Write the opening and closing procedures and operating standards
Run the soft opening and grand opening

Once we open, you own

The team — hiring, training, coaching, retention, and building a bench that can run without you
The schedule and labor efficiency
The product — quality, speed of service, cleanliness, and hospitality
The inventory — ordering, waste, and availability
The numbers — sales, labor, and product cost
Food safety and operating standards
Peak-hour throughput — this store lives or dies on Saturday afternoon
The relationship with ownership on how the store gets better every month

What we need

Three things are not negotiable:

Two or more years managing a café, boba shop, ice cream shop, QSR, or fast-casual location — a real store, with real volume.
You have recruited and hired hourly staff yourself — not just inherited a team someone else built.
You are willing to be on the floor. This is a small store. On some days you are the third pair of hands, and you have to be fine with that.

Strongly preferred: you have opened a new location before. If you have taken a store from empty space to open doors, say so in your application — it moves you to the front of the line.

Also needed: comfort with POS systems, vendors, and contractors; strong organization and project management; the judgment to solve problems without being told how; and availability on weekends, holidays, and peak retail periods.

Experience with coffee, matcha, boba, or dessert concepts is a plus.

This is probably not for you if

You want a store that already runs itself
You need predictable weekends off
You would rather execute someone else's playbook than write one
