About the Role
STOPA America is looking for an experienced and hands-on Senior Accountant to strengthen our local Finance and Accounting team. As part of an international group, our Finance organization is evolving from a primarily year-end focused accounting environment toward structured monthly closing and group reporting processes. In addition, the company is preparing for its first external financial statement audit and a future ERP system transition.
The Senior Accountant will support the local accounting organization with a strong focus on General Ledger Accounting, month-end and year-end closing, financial reconciliations, intercompany accounting and preparation of financial information for Group Reporting. The position works closely with the local Head of Accounting / HR / Administration and the Managing Director of STOPA America as well as with Finance teams in Germany.
Key Responsibilities: General Ledger & Financial Accounting:
- Perform and review General Ledger accounting activities in accordance with US GAAP and local accounting requirements.
- Prepare and post accruals, deferrals, reclassifications and other month-end journal entries.
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations and supporting documentation.
- Review accounting balances and investigate discrepancies.
- Support accounting for fixed assets, inventory, receivables, payables and other relevant balance sheet positions.
- Ensure accurate period allocation and appropriate cut-off of revenues and expenses.
- Support the continuous improvement of accounting data quality and documentation.
Month-End & Year-End Closing:
- Perform key activities within the monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes.
- Prepare closing entries and supporting schedules.
- Reconcile relevant General Ledger and sub-ledger accounts.
- Support the preparation of the annual financial statements.
- Ensure assigned closing activities are completed accurately and within defined deadlines.
- Support the local Finance organization in developing a reliable and repeatable monthly closing routine.
Group Reporting:
- Prepare financial data and supporting documentation required for monthly Group Reporting.
- Support the preparation of monthly Balance Sheet and P&L reporting packages.
- Assist with reconciliations between local accounting records and Group Reporting requirements.
- Prepare accounting information required for adjustments from US GAAP/local accounting to German GAAP (HGB) in cooperation with Finance in Germany.
- Support Group Finance with explanations and documentation regarding local accounting balances and transactions.
- Ensure timely preparation of assigned reporting information according to Group closing deadlines.
Prior German GAAP experience is advantageous but not required. Training regarding Group-specific accounting requirements and German GAAP will be provided.Intercompany Accounting:
- Reconcile intercompany receivables and payables.
- Review and reconcile intercompany revenues and expenses.
- Investigate differences with Finance colleagues in Germany and other affiliated companies.
- Support timely resolution of intercompany discrepancies as part of the monthly closing process.
External Audit & Year-End Support:
- Prepare account reconciliations, schedules and supporting documentation for the external financial statement audit.
- Respond to accounting-related audit requests within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Support the local Finance organization and external accounting advisors during the year-end closing and audit process.
- Maintain accounting documentation in an audit-ready and traceable manner.
ERP & Accounting Systems:
- Use the company's ERP and accounting systems effectively in daily accounting and closing activities.
- Support Finance-related testing, data validation and reconciliation activities during the planned ERP transition.
- Assist with accounting master data and financial data migration where required.
- Identify accounting data or process issues and support their resolution.
The Senior Accountant will support the ERP transition from an accounting perspective but will not be responsible for leading the ERP implementation. Internal Controls & Process Compliance
- Perform accounting activities in accordance with established internal controls and Group policies.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and supporting evidence for accounting transactions and reconciliations.
- Support the implementation and execution of Finance-related internal controls.
- Identify accounting inconsistencies or control issues and escalate them appropriately.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Approximately 5–8 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
- Solid experience in General Ledger Accounting.
- Practical experience with monthly and year-end closing processes.
- Strong experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Good understanding of accrual accounting, cut-off and financial statement preparation.
- Experience supporting external financial statement audits.
- Experience working with ERP or integrated accounting systems.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Hands-on working style and willingness to work directly with accounting transactions and financial data.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small Finance organization.
- Professional proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following experience would be considered an advantage:
- Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, engineering or technical service company.
- Experience working for a U.S. subsidiary of an international or European company.
- Experience with international Group Reporting.
- Exposure to German GAAP (HGB) or IFRS.
- Experience with intercompany accounting.
- Experience supporting an ERP implementation or system migration.
- SAP experience.
- CPA qualification or progress toward CPA certification.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
