Position Summary
Candidates MUST have previous data center experience.
This requirement is non-negotiable. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with extensive expertise supporting mission-critical data center electrical systems. Candidates must possess advanced technical knowledge and exceptional troubleshooting abilities within live data center environments.
This is not a traditional electrical engineering position. We are not considering candidates whose backgrounds are limited to commercial construction, industrial manufacturing, utilities, or general electrical engineering. The successful candidate must have direct experience supporting the electrical infrastructure that powers mission-critical data centers.
The Opportunity
Byers Industrial Services is seeking a highly experienced Electrical Engineer to support a large-scale data center project in Vineland, NJ.
This is a high-impact opportunity for a true subject matter expert with extensive technical knowledge of mission-critical electrical systems. The successful candidate will troubleshoot, analyze, optimize, and support complex electrical infrastructure in a live data center environment where reliability and uptime are paramount.
As a key engineering resource, you will help ensure the reliability, efficiency, and continuous operation of critical electrical systems while collaborating with operations, commissioning, construction, maintenance, controls, and mechanical teams.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a seasoned Electrical Engineer who has spent a significant portion of their career supporting hyperscale, enterprise, or colocation data centers. They are recognized as a technical expert in mission-critical electrical infrastructure and are routinely relied upon to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex electrical issues affecting uptime and reliability.
This individual possesses comprehensive knowledge of the complete electrical distribution system—from incoming utility service through medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution to critical power systems supporting IT equipment. They understand redundancy strategies, commissioning, maintenance, and system optimization in facilities where continuous operation is essential.
The successful candidate will serve as the electrical subject matter expert for the project while partnering with multidisciplinary teams to maximize system performance, resilience, and uptime.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for mission-critical electrical infrastructure supporting data center operations.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical system issues in live production environments while minimizing operational risk.
- Support the operation, maintenance, optimization, and lifecycle management of critical electrical systems.
- Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements to increase reliability, redundancy, efficiency, and resilience.
- Support commissioning, startup, integrated systems testing (IST), and turnover of new electrical infrastructure.
- Review electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, specifications, coordination studies, protection schemes, and control sequences.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) following electrical events and develop corrective actions.
- Analyze load capacity, power quality, electrical distribution, and redundancy strategies.
- Coordinate with operations, commissioning agents, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and engineering teams.
- Assist with planned maintenance, shutdown planning, switching procedures, and emergency response activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, client standards, and industry best practices.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across project teams.
Required Qualifications
Non-Negotiable Requirements
- Previous mission-critical data center experience is REQUIRED.
- Extensive, verifiable Electrical Engineering experience supporting data center electrical infrastructure.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline strongly preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Low Voltage (LV), Medium Voltage (MV), and High Voltage (HV) electrical systems with the ability to troubleshoot and support the complete electrical infrastructure within a mission-critical data center.

Required Experience
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex electrical systems in live mission-critical data center environments.
- Experience commissioning, testing, maintaining, optimizing, and supporting critical electrical infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of electrical redundancy strategies including:
- N
- N+1
- 2N
- 2N+1
- Working knowledge of:
- NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code)
- NFPA 70E
- IEEE standards
- Industry best practices for mission-critical facilities
- Experience collaborating with operations, commissioning, controls, mechanical, and construction teams supporting mission-critical data center infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, protection studies, and construction documents.
- Strong analytical, communication, and technical documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- Experience supporting hyperscale, enterprise, or colocation data centers.
- Mission-critical facility design experience.
- Electrical commissioning and startup experience.
- Experience with SCADA, Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), or Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Experience using ETAP or SKM PowerTools for power system analysis.
