MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

This position receives Hazardous Duty Pay, which is paid biweekly at $60 (not included in salary above).
Schedule:
6:30 -2:30 with Saturdays and Sundays off

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Division of Administration - Logistics has a full-time vacancy for Maintenance Technician.
Summary:
Supervises and performs the technical maintenance, repair, installation, and calibration of HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and related equipment in a prison environment, working in close and immediate contact with prisoners on a daily basis, having responsibility for security.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical equipment used in buildings, with at least 2 years’ of supervisory experience.
License/Certification:
1. Valid driver’s license or have access to transportation for statewide travel.
2. Must have a State of NH Gas Fitters license.
Other Requirements: Must Pass security and background screenings required for correctional environments.
Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 4+ years of relevant education and experience with at least 1+ year of supervisory experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in ‘trainee status’ for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: None.
AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Successful completion of the Corrections Academy within 12 months of hire and continuing certification as correctional line personnel as established by the certifying authority.
2. Successful completion of HVAC refrigerant certification within 12 months of hire.
3. Must be available for on-call through rotating schedule for off hour’s coverage to respond to emergencies and requests for timely assistance, in accordance with departmental policy.
4. Must be willing to work an extended and/or flexible schedule, to include nights and weekends for emergency response to needs at the facilities. May be required to report for work with little notice due to emergencies.

Responsibilities:
Provide security, supervision, and training for inmate workers to complete the required tasks in a proficient manner with security being the priority.
Supervise, schedule, train and assist subordinate staff ensuring continuous maintenance and repairs of equipment.
Installs, trouble shoots, repairs, and maintains HVAC systems and related equipment for the Northern NH Correctional Facility.
Maintain and possess knowledge of large industrial chillers and cooling towers which includes sequence of operation, test, chemically treat, clean, and maintain.
Prevent costly down time and repairs by being able to diagnose and trouble-shoot HVAC systems and controls; electrical, pneumatic, electronics, sensors, transmitters, and relay failures.
Respond to emergencies by using good judgment and assuring that the work is completed safely and meets federal, state, and local codes and recommended ACA standards.
Orders materials & supplies and maintains inventory of needed parts to prevent costly down time of equipment and provide job costs for budgetary information.
Calibrates & adjusts hydraulic, pneumatic, electric & electronic controls & motors to ensure efficient operations and comfort environment.
Maintain records, logs on HVAC equipment and write or procure specifications for competitive bidding by vendors on large HVAC alterations and major repairs.
