We have an opening for an Assistant General Manager position at Starling in Edina.
Job Title: Assistant General Manager
Job Summary: The assistant general manager (AGM) helps the general manager to ensure that day-to-day restaurant operations run smoothly. The assistant general manager will assist with weekly schedules, ordering, inventory, and assist the general manager with training, recruiting, promotions and planning
Reports to: Location General Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- To oversee the restaurant's general operations. To ensure the general cleanliness of the restaurant daily and the proper upkeep and maintenance to make sure the restaurant operates at an optimal level.
- To help coordinate all training of FOH staff and hold every employee of the restaurant accountable for their conduct in line with the policies of Jester Concepts. Address and report all misconduct of any employees and complete any necessary documentation relating to incidents with staff or guests. Build and support a culture within the staff that is respectful, professional and positive.
- To enhance the guest experience daily. To be present on the floor and be aware of how the restaurant is always operating when on site and to handle any and or all situations that may arise with service. To garner customer feedback from tables, management and staff and establish relationships with the customer as much as possible through food running, pre-busing, and table touches. To constantly check on drink and food ticket times to ensure timeliness of our product to the table and ensure that our service staff are executing the proper steps of service.
- To manage and cultivate the ongoing training program aimed to educate our existing staff on all areas of service, including greeting the table, server demeanor, the menu spiel, timing of food & drink ordering, delivery for food and drink items, POS system, identifying guest cues, employee attire, clearing of the table, communication with fellow employees throughout service (ie: host, food runners, bar, wait assists & expo), watering & bread service, general table maintenance, the guest check and departure, the resetting of tables & side-work.
- To assist in financial responsibilities may include but not limited to chargebacks or refunds, banking including deposits and ATM withdrawals, end of night checkouts and reports, maintaining all city requirements and licensing and to maintain open lines of communication with leadership.
- Organize and document daily tip trackers and other nightly financials.
- To develop the schedule for FOH staff.
- Make staffing decisions as appropriate for service day-of as well as for future services and private events.
- Assist the General Manager with administrational duties.
- Work with the leadership team to respond to reviews and feedback and address concerns within the store.
- Responsible for the store’s social media posts, review responses and other information in conjunction with the GM.
- Contribute to weekly store meetings including financial reports, invoice management and review, feedback and public review responses and outcomes, upcoming events, staff and store issues, ongoing initiatives and other general topics that come up.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Bar Specific Duties
- Ensure menu beverage offerings under your purview are available, specifically cocktails, beer, and spirits.
- Stock spirits on the floor and in the storage room per specifications and maintain accurate data re: 86s, specials, counts, etc. (Toast POS, whiteboard)
- Hire and train all bar staff, ensuring they can meet the demands of the role and consistently represent Jester’s core values.
- Accurately record monthly inventory and COGs worksheet.
- Purchase within the budget weekly/monthly and catalog invoices weekly, track purchases compared to financial records.
- Help with beverage sales during service and highlight a cocktail for pre-shift training every week.
- Change menus quarterly as needed, and work with store management and the Executive Leadership team to execute these changes.
- Work with Event Sales team to fulfill specific beverage requests for BEOs.
- Plan and execute in-house cocktail classes
- Meet with vendors as needed to taste selections.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Wine Buyer Addendum
- To ensure menu wine offerings are available.
- To stock wine on the floor and in the storage room per specifications and maintain accurate data re: 86s, specials, counts, etc. (Toast POS, whiteboard)
- Accurately record monthly inventory and COGs worksheet.
- Purchase within the budget weekly/monthly and catalog invoices weekly, track purchases compared to financial records.
- To help with wine sales during service and highlight a wine for pre-shift training every week.
- Change menus quarterly as needed, and work with store management and the Executive Leadership to execute these changes.
- To work with Event Sales team to select wine for BEOs.
- Meet with vendors as needed to taste selections.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Experience-Qualifications
- 2+ years previous experience in restaurant management is required, preferably in an assistant manager/AGM role or similar capacity.
- Strong beverage background- bartending/serving, bar management
- Exceptional liquor-beer-wine knowledge
- Knowledge of food handling practices, food production processes, and hospitality management principles.
- Experience with inventory control systems and procedures.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff and foster teamwork.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with guests and team members.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends.
