FarWest is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, meaning our employees are owners, and we take that seriously. We pride ourselves on personalized customer service, craftsmanship, and a family-like team atmosphere. Our office runs on tried-and-true systems, you’ll find paper files, physical records, and hands-on processes are a real part of this role.

About the Role

We’re looking for a detail-oriented HR Assistant to join our back-office HR and Accounting team. This role is primarily HR-focused, with a secondary responsibility of supporting day-to-day bookkeeping functions. You’ll wear multiple hats, keep both digital and paper records organized, support our ESOP program, coordinate employee training, help foster a positive workplace culture, and be a dependable resource for employees and management alike. Flexibility and a willingness to pitch in on whatever the team needs is a must.

Responsibilities

HR & PEOPLE OPERATIONS (PRIMARY)

Manage full-cycle onboarding for new hires, I-9 verification, new hire paperwork, benefits enrollment, and orientation coordination
Maintain accurate employee files and HR records, both in paper form and digitally
Create, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for HR and office processes
Assist with benefits administration including health, dental, vision, and 401(k)
Support the company’s ESOP program, helping educate employees on their ownership benefits, maintaining related records, and assisting with annual ESOP communications and enrollment
Support employee engagement initiatives, organizing team events, recognition programs, and helping maintain a positive, connected workplace culture
Assist in developing and delivering internal employee training programs
Coordinate training sessions with outside vendors and organizations, including Workers’ Compensation providers, safety trainers, and other third-party partners
Track training completion records and maintain documentation for compliance purposes
Support compliance with company policies, employment laws, and labor regulations
Manage job postings and assist with recruiting coordination
Handle workers’ compensation documentation and reporting
Serve as a point of contact for employee questions regarding HR policies, benefits, and ESOP
Assist management with a variety of back-office tasks and projects as needed

BOOKKEEPING SUPPORT (SECONDARY)

Enter and manage financial transactions in QuickBooks and Excel
Support Accounts Payable (A/P) and Accounts Receivable (A/R) processes
Assist with payroll processing and timesheet tracking in coordination with our payroll specialist
Maintain organized paper and digital financial records

Requirements

1–3 years of experience in an HR, administrative, or bookkeeping role, small business experience strongly preferred
Associate’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field preferred
Familiarity with HR processes: onboarding, I-9s, benefits administration, employment law basics, workers’ comp
Comfortable working with paper records, filing systems, and manual processes alongside digital tools
Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and 10-key typing
Experience coordinating training programs or working with outside vendors
Experience with ESOP programs or employee engagement initiatives is a plus
Experience writing or maintaining SOPs
Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Adaptable and comfortable taking direction from management in a dynamic back-office environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
