POSITION OVERVIEW

The Accountant is responsible for overseeing the AR and AP functions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with financial policies, and for performing broader general accounting activities. This role requires working knowledge of the general ledger, as well as AR and AP processes, to provide effective oversight, and involves reviewing transactions, optimizing processes, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in financial transactions and general ledger accounting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounts Payable (AP)  

Maintain working knowledge of the AP function to oversee timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and expense reimbursements.
Oversee review and approval of vendor invoices and payment requests according to company policies.
Support vendor relationships as needed; help resolve escalated discrepancies and issues related to payments or invoicing.
Monitor AP aging reports and ensure timely payment of obligations.
Review the bank feed reconciliation in QuickBooks to ensure accuracy and financial completeness.
Oversee processing of client refunds in accordance with company procedures.

Accounts Receivable (AR)  

Maintain working knowledge of AR operations, including invoicing, payment application, and collections, to provide oversight and guidance.
Oversee accurate recording of customer payments and timely follow-up on outstanding balances.
Monitor AR aging reports and ensure proactive follow-up with customers regarding overdue accounts.
Support collection efforts and help maintain strong customer relationships to reduce bad debt exposure.

General Accounting & Reconciliations

Prepare monthly bank reconciliations to ensure account balances are accurate and complete.
Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations, researching and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner.
Prepare payroll reports and reconcile payroll-related accounts.
Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
Assist with monthly closing activities, including account analysis and supporting schedules.

Financial Operations & Compliance 

Oversee AR and AP reconciliation activities; support month-end close activities.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare AP/AR and general accounting performance reports and provide analysis for management review.
Collaborate with internal teams (Production, Client Experience, etc.) to resolve financial discrepancies or questions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required).
2-5 years of experience in accounting.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.
Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial transactions.
