Full Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Part-time Bookkeeper to join our small office in Boston. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, payroll, reconciling accounts, and supporting overall financial operations for a $10+million dollar business. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong accounting skills while working flexible hours. Your expertise in will ensure our financial data remains precise, compliant with GAAP standards, and ready for reporting.

Duties

Manage daily bookkeeping tasks including data entry, journal entries, and account reconciliation using QuickBooks Online
Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
Process payroll and handle accounts payable and receivable
Maintain general ledger accounting and ensure compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP
Prepare financial reports, including income statements and balance sheets, for internal review and external reporting purposes
Assist with governmental accounting requirements, tax payments, and year-end filings and reporting, working alongside our outside auditors
Assist in annual budget preparation
Conduct account analysis, double-entry bookkeeping, and budget tracking to support organizational financial health

Requirements

Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, ideally in a small business within public or non-profit sectors
Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online
Solid understanding of financial concepts including debits & credits, journal entries, account reconciliation, and general ledger management
Familiarity with GAAP standards and governmental accounting practices preferred
Excellent skills in Excel spreadsheets
Ability to perform bank reconciliations, account analysis, and general ledger reconciliation accurately
Knowledge of payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable workflows, and budget management
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines in a part-time capacity
