Luly Yang is an award-winning Seattle-based designer and founder of Luly Yang Couture and the Luly Yang Design Group (LYDG). Established in 2000, the company began as a couture bridal and eveningwear house and has since evolved into a multifaceted design business spanning couture, ready-to-wear, travel, and corporate uniform programs. Rooted in a philosophy of “form and function,” the brand combines artistry with practical performance— drawing from Luly’s background in architecture and graphic design to create pieces that are both elegant and purposeful. LYDG is well known for its large-scale uniform programs, while the couture division continues to produce bespoke garments and collections that reflect craftsmanship and individuality. With a multidisciplinary team, global production partnerships, and a commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability, Luly Yang’s business represents the intersection of design, service, identity, and human experience.

Position Overview

As an Apparel Designer, you will conceptualize, sketch, and execute collection ideas that resonate with our diverse clientele. The ideal candidate has design and garment construction experience across a wide range of apparel categories, drives design development, and demonstrates a keen eye for macro trends and market shifts while being passionate about garment innovation.

Accountabilities

Conceptualize, accurately sketch, and execute collection ideas that represent the target customer.
Design original, commercially viable collections.
Implement and maintain calendars for multiple projects to ensure all milestones and deadlines are successfully fulfilled.
Research materials and components.
Oversee product fit sessions.
Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors through the design and product development cycle.
Prioritize workload and complex workstreams across multiple projects.
Work closely with leadership and cross-divisional partners to ensure alignment on priorities and direction.
Research and analyze current market, as well as upcoming garment, fabric and manufacturing innovations.
Support non-garment related special design projects as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in apparel design preferred.
10+ years of experience in the fashion design industry.
Strong ability in both hand-sketching and digital sketching.
Excellent presentation skills.
Profound understanding of industry trends, fabric development, and selection.
Capacity to handle a high volume of styles.
Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong time management and multitasking skills.
Ability to think strategically while delivering appropriate details for various client groups.
Clear and effective written and verbal communication, with strong interpersonal skills for independent work and team collaboration.
Proficiency in the MS Office suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
A “learn-it-all” mentality with a curiosity to research and implement new ideas and design approaches.
