GENERAL STATEMENT:

SCOPE OF POSITION:
In coordination with commanding officers, the Director of William Booth Center (WBC) provides strategic oversight of WBC through goal development, fiscal management, and relationship building with potential and existing donors and partnering organizations. This position also provides direct supervision of the Assistant Director of William Booth Center and the Program staff in their operational and administrative management of the site.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- A bachelor’s degree in social work, business management, public administration, or similar is required, although a master’s degree is preferred. Equivalent program management and administration experience in lieu of a formal degree will also be considered.
- Minimum of three years of experience in three or more of the following fields: human services, program management, staff supervision, fiscal oversight, and grant-writing.
- Experience in both shelter and transitional housing programs preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Client-centered mindset.
- Understanding of basic conflict resolution. Strong crisis intervention skills.
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques in conjunction with trauma-informed care practices.
- Ability to respect and maintain the confidentiality of agency and client information in compliance with applicable law and The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
- Broad and up-to-date knowledge of community-based resources (e.g. housing, RRH funds, employment placement services, access to medical & dental services, etc.).
- Knowledge of local social services agencies and community partners, or an ability to obtain that knowledge quickly through professional networking.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local residential facility statutes and regulations.
- Excellent knowledge and experience in emergency shelter public health and safety protocols.
- Knowledge of low-barrier, low-demand shelter operations.
- Customer service mindset.

- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks under stressful conditions.
- Ability to exercise mature, and sound judgement in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Ability to hire and to apply motivational interviewing techniques.
- Supervisory knowledge, and experience with applying federal and state laws and regulations, including wage, safety regulations, and labor laws. Supervisory skills and knowledge of employee coaching and encouragement, training of direct reports and performance management processes and steps.
- Ability to successfully pass the background and reference check processes.
- Willingness and ability to represent The Salvation Army and Seattle Social Services in a loyal, productive manner in liaison with Northwest Divisional Headquarters (NW DHQ), local, The Salvation Army corps, community members, contracting agencies, as well as Seattle city and King County offices and officials.
- Willingness to abide by The Salvation Army’s Drug Free Workplace policy and drug and associated policies.
- Ability and willingness to understand and fully comply with mandatory reporting requirements and laws pertaining to vulnerable adults and minors.
- Ability to participate in occasional confidential group testing for infectious illnesses such as tuberculosis as part of Seattle Social Services health and safety guidelines and programs.
- Ability to complete CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen and other required safety training and certification within the first 90 days of employment.
SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
- Intermediate level computer skills, including a strong proficiency in internet and email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency in database management software, including Bitfocus, HMIS, and Wellsky.
- Ability to use a copier/scanner/fax machine as required.
- Demonstrated expertise in web resources and navigation.
- Ability to use new software programs with basic training.
- Proficient keyboard (typing) skills (60 words-per-minute).
- Proficiency of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and Wellsky database system, or similar.
