Full Job Description

The Spectrum School is a Boulder-based tutoring company that specializes in serving students with Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences. Our primary focus is reading intervention for students with dyslexia and other struggling readers. We use the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading using the SPIRE curriculum, and we also sometimes support students with structured writing and multisensory math.

Our students can range in age from K - 12th, but are mostly in 2nd-7th grade. We provide sessions at student homes, or at the library.

Successful candidates will have the following Required Qualifications.

Formal training and experience teaching Orton-Gillingham or a structured literacy or OG based program.
Experience doing 1-1 or small group reading intervention
Excellence at building warm, communicative relationships with students and parents.
Skill in assessing students and making decisions about instruction based on assessments, and modifying lesson plans to meet the unique needs of each student.
Availability to teach at least 6 hours per week between 3:30 and 6:00 M-F.
Professionalism and proactive communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in Orton-Gillingham or an OG based method such as Wilson, etc that included a supervised practicum.
Masters in literacy with a science of reading/ structured literacy focus, and/or extensive experience doing reading intervention.
Training and experience teaching an OG or structured literacy curriculum, up through Morphology.
Training and experience teaching math intervention for late elementary and middle schoolers, including breaking down concepts into smaller, more manageable parts, and using visuals and math manipulatives as needed.
Knowledge of dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences, and strategies to support neurodiverse students.
Availability to commit to the position for at least 2 years.

Orton Gillingham curriculum materials provided for you to minimize planning time (teachers still need to adjust individual lessons based on student need.)
Paid training ($20/hr)

The Spectrum School handles marketing, onboarding new students, billing, most curriculum, and all backend paperwork. You get to focus on teaching!
Very supportive management and mentoring to help you succeed.
Consistent, monthly pay, and full pay for sessions that are cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

This is an independent contractor position.
