Overview
Custom Climate is a Sarasota-based HVAC company serving the Suncoast from North Port to Parrish. We are locally owned—not backed by private equity—and take pride in delivering honest, top-tier service.
We are seeking an experienced Level 4 Senior HVAC Technician who thrives on autonomy, technical precision, and exceptional customer interaction. Our primary focus is high-quality residential AC systems. If you take pride in diagnosing root causes rather than just swapping parts, and want to work with a team that respects your craftsmanship and values your expertise, we’d love to talk to you.
Culture & Team Dynamics
Our company runs smoothly because our field technicians and office team work hand-in-hand. While we value field independence and trust you to manage your calls, we operate as a tight-knit, collaborative team.
We look for individuals who are approachable, easy to work with, and strong communicators. Whether you are partnering with dispatch to manage schedule changes, helping a fellow technician talk through a complex diagnostic over the phone, or stepping in to assist on a challenging job, a positive, cooperative attitude makes all the difference here.
Key Responsibilities
- Independent Diagnostics: Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair on residential split systems, heat pumps, dual-fuel setups, and high-efficiency inverter/communicating units without requiring field supervision.
- Collaborative Communication: Work seamlessly with office staff and dispatch to keep customer schedules accurate, communicate job statuses in real time, and support team operational goals.
- System Commissioning & Airflow: Set precise subcooling/superheat, measure total external static pressure, adjust blower speeds, evaluate ductwork, and optimize airflow dynamics to guarantee maximum system efficiency and longevity.
- Refrigerant & System Integrity: Execute recovery, deep triple evacuation to sub-500 microns, vacuum decay testing, and precise weigh-in charging on residential systems.
- OEM Tech Line Interface: Communicate directly with manufacturer technical support lines using precise diagnostic data, electrical readings, and systemic evidence to resolve complex equipment glitches or process warranty approvals efficiently.
- Electrical & Controls Mastery: Read and interpret complex low-voltage and high-voltage residential wiring schematics. Expertly diagnose smart thermostats, communicating controls, and inverter drive boards.
- Homeowner Relations & Leadership: Clearly explain diagnostic findings and repair options to homeowners with professionalism and empathy. Serve as a supportive technical resource and mentor for Level 1–3 technicians when needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 7+ years of hands-on field experience specifically in residential HVAC service and repair.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong teamwork mindset, excellent communication, and a constructive, collaborative approach to working with colleagues and office staff.
- Certifications: EPA Universal Certification required. NATE certification or specialized manufacturer training (e.g., inverter/variable-speed systems) is a strong plus.
- Technical Mastery: Deep understanding of the residential refrigeration cycle, electrical diagnostics, variable-capacity inverter technologies, and duct design/static pressure evaluation.
- Autonomy & Reliability: Proven track record of managing time effectively, solving complex technical problems on the first visit, and representing the company professionally.
- Licensing & Driving: Valid driver’s license with a clean, insurable driving record.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, work in attics/crawlspaces, navigate ladders, and perform physical labor in Florida weather conditions.
