Job Summary
The Program Coordinator strengthens food access across Florida Gateway Food Bank's service area by supporting agency relations, food assistance programs, and rural infrastructure initiatives. As an employee of Second Harvest of the Big Bend (SHBB) and a member of the Community Impact team, the Coordinator works onsite at Florida Gateway Food Bank and collaborates closely with both organizations to build partner capacity, maintain program compliance, provide technical assistance, and expand food access. The position oversees rural infrastructure investments, including cold storage, racking, and material-handling equipment, to increase food availability, product variety, and distribution capacity in rural communities. The Coordinator reports to SHBB's Director of Community Impact, receives day-to-day task supervision from Florida Gateway Food Bank leadership, and participates in ongoing training and coordination with SHBB's Agency Relations and Programs teams. The position upholds the mission of Second Harvest of the Big Bend (SHBB): to advance change by feeding the hungry and educating and engaging the community in the fight to end hunger.
This position is based out of Florida Gateway Food Bank at 553 NW Railroad St, Lake City, FL 32055. This is a time-limited position, beginning upon completion of the hiring process, and concluding on June 30, 2027. This position is funded through a grant. Continued employment is contingent upon availability of grant funding.
Position Responsibilities
1. Maintain a positive work attitude by acting and communicating in a manner conducive to good interpersonal relations (e.g., helpful, courteous, pleasant) with customers, the public, co-workers, and managers, under the spirit of SHBB's mission.
2. Serve as the primary link between SHBB and FGFB for agency relations, program implementation, rural food expansion activities, and grant-funded initiatives.
3. Collaborate with FGFB staff and participate in SHBB Agency Relations and Programs team meetings, trainings, and planning activities to support partner agencies, program operations, and community food access initiatives.
4. Maintain regular communication with the SHBB Director of Community Impact regarding project progress, partner needs, program outcomes, compliance requirements, and grant deliverables.
5. Manage the procurement, distribution, implementation, and monitoring of rural food access infrastructure investments, including cold storage units, refrigeration equipment, shelving and racking systems, and material-handling equipment.
6. Coordinate infrastructure projects with partner agencies; provide training and technical assistance; maintain equipment deployment records and utilization metrics; and monitor usage to ensure investments increase food storage, distribution capacity, product variety, and food access throughout rural communities.
7. Analyze data, prepare reports, success stories, and other required documentation to demonstrate the impact of rural food expansion initiatives and meet funder, grant, and organizational reporting requirements.
8. Work collaboratively with partner agencies to identify operational barriers, implement solutions, and maximize the effectiveness and sustainability of infrastructure investments.
9. Understand and interpret applicable State and Federal laws, USDA regulations, and Feeding America requirements; evaluate and improve programs while ensuring compliance with all applicable standards.
10. Coordinate and support FGFB's agency network and food assistance programs through partner and neighbor engagement, partner training, technical assistance, compliance monitoring, data management, and program reporting, including:
a. Family Nutrition Programs:
i. Mobile Pantry Program
ii. The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
b. Senior Nutrition Programs:
i. Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
11. Represent SHBB and/or FGFB at community meetings, partner events, trainings, and other stakeholder engagements as needed.
12. Attend required training and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities, competencies)
1. Relevant work experience preferred
2. Experience with project management, grant-funded initiatives, food distribution operations, logistics, warehouse systems, or community-based program implementation preferred.
3. Ability to evaluate program outcomes and utilize data to drive continuous improvement and reporting.
4. Driver’s license and clean driving record.
5. Ability to organize and prioritize work and tasks.
6. Pleasant, courteous, professional demeanor.
7. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
8. Attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
9. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The ability to learn and use various software programs dealing with databases and inventory systems.
10. Must be self-motivated and work well with people in a team environment, and can manage time and multiple projects.
- Must be flexible with schedule when issues or emergencies arise.
12. Must assist in disaster response (i.e. Hurricanes, floods, pandemics, etc.).
13. Must be able to travel within our 16 counties several times per week[KT1] in personal vehicle if company car is not available.
