HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
This position is responsible for performing various job tasks on hazardous and non-hazardous waste sites. Work performed on hazardous waste sites may include possible exposure to lead, PCBs, H2S, arsenic, and various other metals, chemicals, and conditions. General construction equipment and light/heavy diesel engine maintenance experience required.

Full Time Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour plus travel pay and per diem pay
Regional: Candidates must be open to sustained project-based travel within the western US. Project locations will vary depending on the assignment. Candidates can reside anywhere within the US.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform the job in compliance with ENTACT safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Conduct in-depth inspection of heavy machinery to identify their faults.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trailers, and hydraulic systems.
- Effectively troubleshoot and identify malfunctions and failures in construction equipment and vehicles in a field environment
- Assist site management and equipment operators with addressing outstanding mechanical and maintenance issues.
- Accurately record time, parts, and inspection checklists. Maintain accurate records of repairs performed.
- Move company equipment safely on site or in a laydown yard as needed.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment and vehicles in accordance with OEM requirements.
- Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, clutches, electrical and pneumatic systems, gearboxes, hydraulics, cooling systems, exhaust, brakes, suspensions, lights, etc. on a variety of construction equipment, heavy duty trucks, trailers, and other equipment.
- Disassemble, inspect and replace worn or broken parts. Fit and adjust new or repaired parts.
- Weld and hard-faced wear items on heavy equipment buckets and attachments.
- Safely operate gauges, forklifts, torches, grinders, welders, and various hand and power tools.
- Keep tools and equipment in good maintenance.
- Adhere to safety protocols while working on equipment in the shop or field.
- Assist with the preparation and review of Job Safety Analyses, observations, and other reports.
- Promote the use of Stop Work Authority.

- Must be capable of successful participation in the ENTACT-USDOT Qualified Driver program for operators of Commercial Motor Vehicles.

Physical and visual activities that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job include:
- Performing physical activities that may require moving one’s whole body, such as climbing, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, handling, balancing, walking, stooping, squatting, where the activities often require considerable use of the hands, arms and legs such as in the physical handling of materials or tools or operation of tools and equipment.
- Controlling operations of equipment or systems. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate.
- Use both hands, arms, feet, and legs while standing, walking, climbing, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fingering, and feeling. Other requirements include talking, hearing, acuity-near, distinguish colors, sense of smell, peripheral vision, and hand to eye coordination. Hear the direction from which a sound originated. Detect distance of objects and depth perception.
- Controlling operations of equipment or systems. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Physical Demands:
Physical demands commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job include, but are not limited to:
- Most work is performed while standing or walking.
- Must be capable of working under physical stress conditions such as heat stress and cold stress during various weather conditions and potentially long workdays.
- Possibility of frequent and prolonged use of respiratory equipment (i.e. half-face, full-face, SCBA, etc.)
- Heat extremes when wearing certain types of PPE. Wear Level C and D PPE including cotton, Tyvek, chemical protective coveralls, eye and face protection, hand protection, etc. Potential for Level A and B PPE exists.
- Climbing to and working on elevations such as scaffolding, lifts, machinery, etc. for extended periods of time.
- Expected to lift objects weight 1 to 25 lbs. on a regular basis and may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Manual labor, including materials handling, digging, and lifting as well as physically moving pumps, hoses and other equipment or materials.
- Working in loud or noisy environments.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions:
Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job include:
- Outside construction site.
- Terrain is rugged and may be difficult to navigate.
- Dusty and windy atmospheres.
- Confined spaces.
- Hot environments.
- Potential airborne exposures to dust, mists, fumes, and vapors in concentrations not exceeding OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits (PELS) or other published occupational exposure limits.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Different types of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be worn including, but not limited to hard hat, hearing protection such as ear plugs or muffs, eye protection such as safety glasses, goggles, face shield, etc., welders helmet, safety vest, various types of gloves including leather, Nitrile, latex, etc., steel toe boots, and various respiratory protection such as dust masks, half face and full face respirators, SCBAs, APRs, etc. may be required depending on site conditions. Protective coveralls include cotton, Tyvek, fire retardant, chemical protective, etc.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge: Must possess and demonstrate abilities to diagnose equipment failures and perform necessary repairs utilizing appropriate diagnostic tools. Must possess and demonstrate skills to safely operate various types of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and is knowledgeable of their uses and limitations.
- Experience: 3+ years of heavy equipment mechanic experience in a similar industry.
- Education: HS Diploma or equivalent. Related technical training/certification is a plus.
- Licenses/Certifications: HAZWOPER 40-hour training and current refresher. Valid state issued driver’s license required, commercial driver’s license a plus.
