Full Job Description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing and maintaining the organization’s financial records, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and handling key accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial statements. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, proficiency with accounting software, and the ability to analyze financial data to support business decisions. The accountant plays a crucial role in maintaining the company’s financial health and ensuring compliance with tax regulations and financial reporting standards.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

System Processes

Ensure that systems and processes support workload and promote efficiency, accuracy accountability of information and data.
Maintain and control accounts and records to ensure adherence to accounting principles.
Review and verify accuracy of accounting data.
Maintain Purchase Order file, and perform 3 ways matching.
Review all AP invoices for proper authorization and input invoices into MIP accounting system. Reconcile vendor monthly statements.
Assist with the month end close including the preparation of journal entries for financial transactions including accounts receivable, prepaid, accruals, allowances, payroll, and other related accounts.
Prepare receivables posting and reconciliations. Follow up on past due accounts on a monthly basis
Reconcile employee benefits such as health, life, 401(k) retirement plan and other benefits.
Prepare monthly credit card reconciliation, including coding and receipts tracking.
Reconcile fee-for-service revenue between the general ledger, and the practice management system.
Verify coding of receipts and recording of restrictions and reporting requirements of grants
Help maintain, reconcile and prepare reports for contracting agencies, including the OSHPD and UDS reports
Preparation of cash reporting and positive payment downloads
Reviews and approves A/P & C/R batches.
Assist, as needed, with preparation of schedules and documentation for programs and/or Agency audits

Communications

Ensure effective, professional communications within and outside of the Clinic setting.
Interface effectively with all levels in the Agency.
Consistently utilize and facilitate effective strategies to communicate pertinent information in a timely manner.
Establish/maintain contacts and relationships with outside agencies, government entities, vendors, volunteers, staff as a representative of the Division/Work Unit when appropriate.
Perform trouble shooting when problems or difficult situations arise and take independent action to resolve such situations.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, contractual obligations and funding sources.
Perform functions, duties and /or services and maintain records/documents in compliance with regulatory agencies, contractual obligations and funding sources.
Use accounting system and financial reporting in accordance with policies and procedures.

Knowledge / Abilities / Skills:

Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and tax laws.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MIP or other financial management systems) and advanced Excel skills.
Detail-oriented with the ability to perform complex calculations and reconcile accounts accurately.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to management.
Strong problem-solving skills, especially in identifying discrepancies or financial issues.
Good communication skills to interact with colleagues, clients, and auditors.

Qualifications / Education / Training:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance preferred.
Experience with A/P and GL. A minimum of three years previous experience in providing similar financial staff support within a nonprofit, healthcare or human service agency highly preferred.
Experience working with an FQHC organization highly preferred.
Ability to work independently on multiple projects and with multidisciplinary staff and committees necessary.
Knowledge of computer spreadsheet, database programs and computerized accounting systems, including MIP Accounting required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience working with volunteers and interns desirable.
Willingness to commit to the philosophy and goals of Celebrating Life Community Health Center.

Skills / Experience:

2-5 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in a corporate or professional services environment.
Experience with preparing financial statements, tax filings, and managing accounts payable/receivable.
Familiarity with financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
Proven track record of maintaining accurate financial records and handling audits.

Reasoning / Mental Abilities:

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make sound recommendations.
Detail-oriented with an ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues independently.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively, especially during peak periods like tax season or financial reporting deadlines.
Problem-solving mindset to troubleshoot financial challenges and propose solutions.
Capacity to think critically and make decisions that support the financial health of the organization.

Pay: $30.00 - $38.00 per hour
