About the Role
Harbor IT is looking for a hands-on, field-proven low-voltage and electrical technician who holds — or clearly qualifies for — a California C-10 (Electrical) and/or C-7 (Low Voltage Systems) contractor license. The C-10 is the primary requirement; C-7 is a strong plus. This is not a desk job. We want someone who has done the work: pulled cable, terminated fiber, racked gear, and led crews in the field.
In addition to technical execution, this person will serve as Harbor IT’s Responsible Managing Employee (RME) / qualifier for the C-10 and C-7 licenses with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB), unlocking the company’s ability to self-perform electrical and low-voltage scopes across California. You will also contribute to job estimating and scoping, and support business development through RFP identification.
Must be located in Northern California or Southern California.
Key Responsibilities
Field Technical Work (Primary Focus)
- Deploy and install structured cabling, fiber optic runs, patch panels, racks, and low-voltage infrastructure at enterprise, airport, and critical infrastructure sites.
- Perform copper and fiber terminations, testing, labeling, and certification to BICSI/TIA/EIA standards.
- Lead or participate in hands-on installations, including scheduled evening and weekend cutovers.
- Perform Level 1 IT field tasks: racking and stacking equipment, staging hardware, and wireless AP deployment.
- Provide Level 1 network troubleshooting including physical layer checks, connectivity verification, and basic device configuration.
Licensing & Qualifier (RME) Responsibilities
- Serve as Harbor IT’s Responsible Managing Employee (RME) / qualifier for the C-10 (Electrical) and C-7 (Low Voltage Systems) CSLB contractor licenses.
- Maintain active, in-good-standing qualifications; take the CSLB trade exam(s) if required.
- Provide documentable journey-level or supervisory experience for CSLB license applications, including references from prior employers, contractors, and project records.
- Ensure field work performed under the C-10 and C-7 licenses meets applicable codes, permitting requirements, and CSLB standards.
Estimating & Scoping
- Assess and scope structured cabling and fiber optic jobs, including site walks and requirements gathering.
- Prepare accurate quotes, estimates, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for cabling and fiber projects.
- Collaborate with Sales and Solutions teams to validate labor, materials, and timelines.
Business Development Support
- Scan for RFPs, RFQs, and open bids relevant to cabling, fiber, low-voltage, and electrical scopes.
- Flag qualifying opportunities to leadership and provide technical input to support the response process.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain accurate field documentation including as-built drawings, test results, and project records.
- Track time and provide project status updates through ConnectWise or equivalent tools.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Sales to ensure quality delivery.
Who We’re Looking For
You are a working technician or foreman — not a manager who stopped doing the work years ago. You have pulled cable, certified runs, and led installs. You hold or clearly qualify for a C-10 license (required) and ideally a C-7 as well. You understand what the CSLB qualifier role means and you are ready to step into it.
Required
- Active California C-10 (Electrical) contractor license OR documented, verifiable experience that clearly qualifies you to obtain it.
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on journey-level or supervisory experience in low-voltage and/or electrical work.
- Documented experience available via prior employers, contractors, project records, and references for CSLB purposes.
- Willingness to serve as Harbor IT’s RME/qualifier for C-10 and C-7, and to sit the CSLB trade exam if required.
- Hands-on experience with structured cabling and fiber optic installation, termination, testing, and certification.
- Ability to read and interpret site drawings, floor plans, and cabling schedules.
- Working knowledge of BICSI, TIA/EIA, and NEC standards as they apply to low-voltage and electrical work.
- Located in Northern California or Southern California.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to customer sites across California.
- Ability to perform physical field work: lifting, pulling cable, working on ladders and lifts.
Preferred
- Active California C-7 (Low Voltage Systems) contractor license in addition to C-10.
- Prior RME or qualifying individual (QI) experience for a licensed contractor.
- BICSI certification (Installer, Technician, or RCDD).
- Basic IT/network exposure: Cisco/Meraki hardware familiarity, racking/staging, wireless AP deployment.
- Estimating or bidding experience; familiarity with RFP processes.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
