Precision Machine OperatorPosition Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Precision Machine Operator to join our team. This position focuses on precision surface and bevel grinding in a manufacturing environment. Ideal candidates have machine shop experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to producing high-quality work. Previous grinding experience is preferred but not required for candidates with relevant machining experience.

This position involves programming, setting up, operating, and maintaining the following equipment:

Okamoto 2024 Surface Grinder
Okamoto 2040 Surface Grinder
Berger Bevel Grinding Machine

Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, the ability to work within tight tolerances, and pride in maintaining the equipment and workspace.

Key Responsibilities

Program, set up, and operate precision surface and bevel grinding equipment.
Produce quality parts while maintaining tight tolerances and consistent finishes.
Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments.
Read and follow work instructions, setup sheets, and quality requirements.
Dress grinding wheels and monitor machine performance throughout production.
Identify, troubleshoot, and correct grinding or machine-related issues.
Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Assist with other machine shop operations as needed.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience operating and/or programming precision manufacturing equipment in a machine shop environment.
Experience with manual or CNC machining, grinding, milling, turning, or similar precision equipment.
Ability to use precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, and indicators.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work within close tolerances.
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn new equipment and processes quickly.
Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and setup documentation.
Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Commitment to maintaining equipment, cleanliness, and safe work practices.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience operating surface grinders, bevel grinders, tool grinders, or similar precision grinding equipment.
Experience with Okamoto surface grinders or Berger grinding equipment.
Experience in knife manufacturing, toolmaking, or other precision manufacturing environments.
Ability to optimize grinding programs and machine setups.
Understanding of close tolerances, surface finishes, and material characteristics.
Strong troubleshooting skills and experience improving manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with preventative maintenance and machine care.
