Full Job Description

The Putnam/Northern Westchester Women's Resource Center has been providing services to women and children who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for over 45+ years. The mission of the WRC is to provide advocacy, education, and services to the community in order to create a safe, supportive environment that eliminates violence against women, men and children and promotes gender equality.

Position Overview

The Trauma Therapist is a critical member of a multidisciplinary team serving children and families impacted by abuse, violence, and trauma. This position operates at the intersection of clinical care and forensic response, providing trauma-informed therapeutic services while supporting coordinated investigations through the Child Advocacy Center model.

Co-located between the Putnam County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and the Putnam Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center (PNWWRC), this role ensures seamless, survivor-centered care across systems. The Trauma Therapist plays a key role in promoting safety, healing, and resilience through evidence-based interventions and strong cross-sector collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Forensic Interviewing and Multidisciplinary Coordination

Conduct forensic interviews with children and adolescents, or complete required training to perform interviews in accordance with CAC protocols and nationally recognized best practices.
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) case review meetings, contributing clinical insight related to safety, trauma impact, and service planning.
Collaborate closely with law enforcement, child protective services, medical professionals, and prosecutors to support accurate, trauma-informed case documentation and response.

Trauma-Informed Mental Health Services

Conduct trauma screenings, biopsychosocial assessments, and risk evaluations.
Provide evidence-based trauma treatment, including:
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Other clinically appropriate, evidence-based modalities
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, with ongoing evaluation of progress and outcomes.
Provide crisis intervention and short-term stabilization for children and families experiencing acute trauma or distress.

Collaboration, Advocacy, and Family Engagement

Serve as a clinical liaison between the CAC and PNWWRC, ensuring continuity and coordination of care.
Educate caregivers and families on trauma, healing, and available supports in a clear, compassionate, and empowering manner.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation in compliance with all legal, ethical, and organizational standards.

Qualifications

Required

Licensed or license-eligible mental health professional (LCSW, LMHC/LPC, LMFT, or equivalent) in New York State.
Ability to provide trauma-focused treatment, including TF-CBT and/or EMDR (independently or under appropriate supervision).
Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, child development, and the dynamics of abuse and victimization.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to function effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred

Experience conducting forensic interviews with children or willingness to be trained.
Prior experience working within a Child Advocacy Center or similar multidisciplinary setting.
Familiarity with child protective systems, legal processes, and community-based resources.
Training or certification in TF-CBT, EMDR, or other trauma-specific modalities.

Additional Requirements

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between CAC and PNWWRC locations.
