Full Job Description

Job Overview

The Purchasing Manager leads and manages the procurement function to ensure the strategic, timely, and cost-effective sourcing of raw materials, components, packaging, and indirect supplies required to support manufacturing operations. The Purchasing Manager is responsible for developing sourcing strategies, optimizing supplier performance, managing costs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, inventory performance, service levels, and overall business growth. This position plays a key role in mitigating supply chain risks while delivering sustainable value through effective supplier partnerships and procurement strategies.

Duties

Lead daily procurement activities in alignment with business objectives, production requirements, and supply chain strategies.
Collaborate with Planning, Production, Logistics, Quality, Sales, and Finance teams to support operational goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Develop and maintain procurement performance reports, financial analyses, inventory reports, and exception reporting.
Monitor, evaluate, and improve supplier performance, including management of consigned materials.
Develop and execute cost reduction initiatives to achieve annual savings targets.
Analyze purchasing trends, MRP data, historical demand, and emerging technologies, including AI-driven tools, to support sourcing decisions.
Provide material liability analysis, including excess inventory and disposal cost assessments, as needed.
Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of purchasing data, including material information, supplier records, and system updates.
Create and manage RFQs, conduct supplier evaluations, and support vendor qualification processes.
Establish and maintain appropriate safety stock levels in partnership with Sales and Supply Chain leadership.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure supply continuity and operational success.
Identify and implement strategies to optimize costs, including MOQ optimization, supplier diversification, and material code management.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance procurement processes and supply chain effectiveness.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA preferred.
10+ years of purchasing and/or supply chain experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a high volume of SKUs.
3+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience within Supply Chain or Procurement.
Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supplier management, inventory optimization, and cost reduction strategies.
Advanced ERP system experience required; SAP experience preferred.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
Ability to analyze complex data, identify opportunities, and make sound business recommendations.
Excellent organizational, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, delegate effectively, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Experience leveraging AI tools or technology to improve procurement processes is a plus.
