Full Job Description

Position Summary

The MICA Specialist provides direct support and clinical coordination for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders residing in a congregate residential setting. The role focuses on stabilization, relapse prevention, skill development, crisis intervention, and promoting recovery-oriented, person-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

Provide individual and group counseling focused on co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment and recovery plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Conduct assessments, screenings, and ongoing evaluations of residents’ mental health and substance use needs.
Facilitate psychoeducational groups on relapse prevention, coping skills, emotional regulation, medication adherence, and recovery strategies.
Support residents in accessing community-based services, including outpatient treatment, detox programs, self-help groups, and psychiatric care.
Participate in crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
Monitor medication compliance in collaboration with nursing and psychiatric providers.
Document all services, progress notes, incidents, and treatment plan updates in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
Provide staff training and guidance on co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, and behavioral interventions.
Collaborate with families, case managers and external providers(If applicable), to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
CASAC-T, CASAC, CADC, or equivalent substance use credential preferred (or required based on state regulations).
Experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders in residential, inpatient, or community-based settings.
Knowledge of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care models.
Strong documentation and case management skills.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Timely and accurate documentation.
Active engagement of residents in treatment and recovery planning.
Reduction in relapse incidents and behavioral crises (where measurable).
Compliance with all regulatory, confidentiality (HIPAA), and agency standards.
