Full Job Description

Position: Staff Accountant

Department: Finance / Administration

Immediate Supervisor: Controller

Classification: Exempt

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant develops, maintains, and improves Sussex IM's accounting records and internal controls, with primary responsibility for accounts payable. This role supports the full cycle of accounting operations — payables, receivables, reconciliations, and monthly reporting — and offers the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility in financial reporting and analysis over time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

Own the accounts payable process end to end: set up new vendors, prepare weekly payment runs, and ensure vendors are paid accurately and on time.
Assist with the automation of Accounts Payable processes.
Maintain vendor records and resolve invoice or payment discrepancies.
Prepare and file annual 1099s

General Ledger & Reconciliations

Review and post receiving and manual adjustment transactions in IQMS.
Prepare and maintain reconciliations for accounts payable, accounts receivable, accrued receipts, bank accounts, prepaid freight, and capital and customer tooling projects.
Maintain fixed asset and depreciation records.
Track vendor rebates.
Prepare sales rep commission reports and payments.

Financial Reporting & Audit

Assist the Controller with the monthly close, including capital and customer tooling entries, department budget review, and account reconciliations.
Support external auditors by gathering requested data accurately and on time and by helping them understand company systems and procedures

General

Follow Sussex IM's environmental policies to minimize the company's environmental impact.
Maintain a safe work environment, act safely at all times, and report unsafe conditions to a manager.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
0–2 years of accounting experience; an internship or co-op in accounting is preferred.
Exposure to a manufacturing environment is a plus but not required.
CPA eligibility, or interest in pursuing a CPA, is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Solid understanding of GAAP and relevant IRS regulations.
Strong analytical and organizational skills with close attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel; experience with an ERP or accounting system (IQMS a plus).
Ability to handle confidential payroll and financial information with discretion.
Clear written and verbal communication and a collaborative, professional approach to working with colleagues
